Gambon did a bit on his Radio 2 show about Carmen last week.
He had quite a career, but all I remember him for was Hungry Eyes and hadn't realised he wrote and did the original of All by Myself.
He made his breakthrough in a band called The Raspberries in the early 70s.

Love Ultravox and saddened by this news.
Love both versions of the band, but the 80s version was always my favourite and didn't get into the Foxx led era until later.

I loved that era of Forest and sad to hear when one of them passes.
You think of hardmen defensive pairings and Burns and Lloyd have to be near the top.
Signed and played for both Shankly and Clough, so more than just a hard man. You wouldn't have played for either manager if you weren't good.

Bri. Excellent post.
After he passed, I saw a TOTP video of Make me Smile where Harley was looking resplendent in Purple Coat and Bowler hat for the performance. Still looked amazing after nearly 50 years.
Judy Teen is an underrated tune. I had it as an earworm a few weeks before he passed and played it around 10 times on the bounce.

The Cockney Rebel albums from the 70s are an excellent addition to any collection and are sadly overlooked 50 years later.
Like I have written countless times on this forum, if you are going to be best remembered for one song, then make sure it's a good one and Make Me Smile is certainly one of the greats.
You need to get a doctor to check you aren't dead if that song doesn't float your boat.
His career never really recovered from Make Me Smile, in terms of chart success. Possibly not helped by his long running fued with the music press.
Steve Wright mentioned Harley was ill on his last POTP the Saturday before he died and now a few weeks later they are both gone. 😔
RIP Steve

Yes, was shocked to read of his passing.
He had a brain aneurysm around 20 years ago, which he pretty much made a full recovery from.
A talented musician and songwriter.

I came across this news yesterday, when I was looking something up in IMDB.
A very good character actor, who is best known to me for his role in the excellent Secret Army.
He is also a member of the illuminati who appeared across the holy trinity of TV shows that we are mainly on here for and a load of ITC shows for good measure.
I was very impressed to read about his activism too, whilst reading through various obituaries of him.

Remember him from the darts, but like most others, best remembered for Bullseye on Sunday afternoons.
Iiiiiin one...
I actually caught an old episode of Bullseye on TV last Sunday and was thinking how much a part of our Sundays it was back then and it was such a simple, but well executed show.
Jim and Tony played their parts so well that we all remember the phrases decades later and remember them fondly upon their passing.

Proper mannies fitba player, as we say around these parts.
An old boss of mine knew him and was at a game at Wembley with him, a play off final if I remember correctly. They both had links to Brentford at the time, pre EPL days.
Paul's abiding memory of the day was the way Bowles navigate them to the bar so quickly at half time.

Dave and his pal Si were a good double act who came across as being sincere when on the Telly and not smarmy like many other TV chefs.
As said, gone to son which is usually the way if the good ones.

Fred Elliot is one of the best characters to have appeared in a soap opera.
The guy gave him a life of his own. Nothing like the character in real life either, which makes it top, top acting.
So sorry, but have to say he is best known to me as Fred Elliot off Corrie, than any other of his many roles.

Was never a fan of his shows, just never got the posse thing and liked slow songs too much for my liking, but...
I was taking to him doing Pick if the Pops, I even chuckled at some of his jokes. I listened to last weekend shows on Sounds on Monday and was very shocked to read of his untimely death on Tuesday.
He mentioned Keith Chegwin during one show and how he was no longer with us but was such a nice guy. He also mentioned Steve Harley was keeping poorly and wished him a speedy recovery. Apparently they were at school in London around the same time.
I know when people die there are loads of posts from celebrities on social media about them, but the posts about Wright were on another level.
Everyone with a story and all about how good a host/colleague he was. DJs both young and old were gutted, as they genuinely seemed to love the guy and each one spoke about how professional and dedicated to radio he was.

Not many actors hit the jackpot at 22 years old with such an iconic role.
Even on TV in his later years, you still think of him as young Pike.

I used to listen to Anne's Sunday evening request show quite regularly in the 80s, where I recall hearing e.g., such as Half Man Half Biscuit and Guns N' Roses for the first time. I didn't really follow her career closely after this, but like John Peel she rode through the Matthew Bannister changes at Radio One - these did bring about the end of her Sunday evening show in 1994, but she gained a weekend overnight show instead. R.I.P. Anne Nightingale - I never got used to her being called 'Annie'. On Gambos show last Sunday night, he spoke very fondly of her and referred to her as Anne.

Played half a game with his arm in a sling due to having a break in it.
As we say around these parts 'a proper mannies fitba player'.

Very much deserving of the title of Legend.
To make it in a male dominated industry when she did and in her own terms, was unique. I've read her biography and she took no sh*t in a time when it wasn't easy to do so. It cost her at times too.
To still love new music in her 80s and still be part of arguably the countries biggest radio station for the nations youth is a measure of what she stood for.
Definitely one of the one off brigade. The likes of which will never be seen again.

Really hits when stars of iconic shows/films from our youth pass.
I always think of them being on screen in their pomp and bypassing the ageing process, which us lesser mortals are prone. It's worse now than ever when you can easily find them on screen somewhere in their younger years and forget for a time that they have passed.
As much as I liked him as an actor I've never been convinced on his singing.

Brookside was ace back in the day and Dean Sullivan as Jimmy Corkhill more than played his part.
Brookside is being released onto the STV/ITV players this year from the beginning. Watched a good few of the early years, which I was too young for first time round. I've even seen the original Alan Partridge!

Has to be Slade but both great songs.
I think the "It's Chriiiiiistmaaaas" line probably gives it the edge.
Noddy Holders Wife posted on Twitter recently that he wasn't very well, he has had prostate cancer for a number of years and sounds as though he may be in the last stages of his fight.

Pork thingys are totally unheard of here. We get the Bacon Fries though, which are ace. Crisps - If you've never had Tayto cheese & onion then you haven't lived. jno will know, as he visits here often. An Irish guy I know in Aberdeen, buys Tayto crisps in bulk in Ireland and sells them in an Irish pub here. We can buy the Tayto crisps produced in the NI in the UK, but not the ones in the South.

Maybe the cause of pub violence up here. Still a few places love a battle with their bevvy. Never seen Scotch eggs up here either. What!! But you’re from Scotland. What’s the point of going there if not to pick fresh scotch eggs, straight from the Sauschick Tree? If scotch eggs aren’t harvested in Scotland where are they harvested then? I think you’re having me on now. We chopped down the egg trees and replaced them with the battered mars bar tree instead. Better for the environment I believe.

Never seen pork scratchings in a pub up my way. Scotch pies used to be popular up here in pubs. I wonder if this could be the causation of all the arrested development up there Daz? It’s not scratchings but I suppose I could slum it and stretch to a Scotch Pie if I had to. Surely they serve Scotch Eggs as a substitute as well? Maybe the cause of pub violence up here. Still a few places love a battle with their bevvy. Never seen Scotch eggs up here either.

I like boats and to travel on boats, but would never do a cruise.
In Aberdeen, they have just built a new harbour at the waterside where I was brought up. This is to accommodate supply ships, but also allow these huge ferries to rock up with tourists, usually from Germany.
Because of this, a much beloved part of our coastline is now out of bounds for us plebs.
The first things tourists see on coming to this new Aberdeen port is a sewarage plant, followed by a huge incinerator.
