Various reports online that the composer of the themes for The Avengers and The Professionals has died at the age of 96. A very sad loss.
RIP.

A good innings anyway. Enjoying his Pros theme tune in recent days and thought he was a great old age at this stage.
Pros theme will always be up there as one of the greatest tv themes of all time.
Beats Minder and the Sweeney for me and that was no mean feat.
And to also have the Avengers as well, his music will be remembered as iconic for years to come.

Loved his music for "The New Avengers" and "The Professionals". I know Network were looking at releasing more of his music from "The Avengers" prior to it ceasing trading. I hope more of this music gets a release.
RIP Laurie.

One of the legendary TV theme composers and no slouch at scoring shows such as The Avengers and Jason King. Another link with the glory days of British TV gone. RIP.

Have to confess I wouldn't have recognised his name but I know all his music, such a contribution to the TV culture of the last 50+ years. And Animal Magic too.

Animal Magic, The Avengers, This Is Your Life, Jason King, The New Avengers and The Professionals are theme tunes of Laurie's that spring to mind.
R.I.P. Laurie Johnson - you just don't get TV themes like those anymore.

Of course, his most famous TV theme tune - for The Avengers - isn't really a TV theme tune at all, at least not in terms of it having been written specifically for TV. It was an reworked version of an earlier Johnson composition called The Shake, which featured on the Laurie Johnson Orchestra LP The Big New Sound Strikes Again (NPL 18103).

Was sad to read this.
I actually thought he had died years ago.
I love The Professionals theme, but he did so much other top theme tunes too.
RIP
