As a young child in the mid 1970s I saw a pre season team picture centre spread in Tiger magazine, a beautiful summer day and a team with beautiful blue and white hooped shirts.
I was hooked, and they became my team for a few years, until cycling took over in 1980.
Ireland's Don Givens played for them too, which was another attraction. Would only see them on TV, Match Of The Day etc, but Stan mesmerized me. Like all the best players he was largely overlooked by England, 5 caps. Too much class and creativity for them.
Think he had his problems, "If he could pass a bookies like he could pass a ball" was a clue to one.
Like a lot of former players he got Alzheimer's, he really didn't deserve that, nobody does. RIP Stan.

That QPR side came close to winning Division One in 1976. Just a point off Liverpool who were heading into their 14 years of dominance.
You'd have to think Regan and Carter were admirers.
Stan seemed to get the dementia at 66 and had it 9 years.

One of those wonderful skilful mavericks that lit up the game in the seventies. RIP Stan

He was one of 70's Engish football's "Mavericks" alright (probably the standard barer) Superb skills and tons of attitude (booze, birds, bookies) - you don't have to be a QPR fan to appreciate all he did - and indeed be dismayed at English football's higher echelons near contempt of him as evidenced by a paltry 5 caps) YouTube is your friend in this case 👀
RIP Sir

One of those players who was an inspiration to the young me when I was in my early playing days - so skilful. (Stan, not me particularly, though I was a half decent left winger!)
RIP.

Proper mannies fitba player, as we say around these parts.
An old boss of mine knew him and was at a game at Wembley with him, a play off final if I remember correctly. They both had links to Brentford at the time, pre EPL days.
Paul's abiding memory of the day was the way Bowles navigate them to the bar so quickly at half time.
RIP

Brazilian shirt name podcast is one I listen to each week doing the garden. It combines a review of a match in history with the chart music of the time. This episode is a tribute to Stan Bowles reviewing a 1976 Uefa Cup run they had following the second place in the league in 75/76 season. www.spreaker.com/episode/24th-November-1976-qpr-v-fc-koln-stan-bowles-tribute--58840855The guest here is ex Met copper Peter Bleksely who is on GB News quite a bit. He can talk, is trying to get a statue built at QPR and listening to this I wondered if he might be an interesting guest for something like the Minder podcast talking about the Met and how the Sweeney/Minder depicted the police and villany of that time.

Sad loss Mr Bowles - a wonderful personality in 80's football. Strange that he is from Manchester yet made a huge impact with a particular London club, QPR, for whom will forever be their most favoured son. A great player and sorely missed RIP Mr Bowles
