Sad news to start the year. His star shone brightly in the 70s with Magnum Force, Starsky and Hutch, Salem's Lot plus his career as a singer. He also directed 3 episodes of Starsky and Hutch, one Miami Vice, one Hunter plus a few other series. He also presented for the BBC in 1982 31 episodes of 6-55 special.
RIP David

Outside of TV he was notable for campaigning with Martin Bell during his "white suit" phase.

Tragic, who doesn't like Starsky & Hutch, gutted.
Let's also not forget Magnum Force, World War III, The Disappearance of Flight 412, The Stick Up (with Glynn Edwards, see Not Minder) and his appearances in Streets of San Francisco and The Rookies. And of course, this ... The Covered Man ...
RIP David

Very sad to read of this just now at the BBC News website. Starsky and Hutch was very much a part of my youth and, while not to my particular tastes, he was also no slouch in the pop music arena. By all accounts a down to earth, decent feller, too. RIP.

This came as very sad news , as I absolutely loved Starsky & Hutch as a kid , as I mentioned when I reviewed the show. David Soul s transformation from actor to pop star worked very well . I can never forget the scene in the title sequence , where he leaps off the wall & lands on his backside on the car roof . R.I.P David SOUL

Although best known for Starsky and Hutch also had a career resurgence in the UK later on in his life with theatre and television appearances. RIP

So sad that David Soul has died. I grew up watching Starsky and Hutch and David Soul as well as Paul Michael Glaser were absolutely brilliant in it. Hutch will be in good company alongside Regan and Carter up in the great cop show graveyard in the sky. RIP.

'Silver Lady' was an excellent hit record, totally sat well amidst records by such as Boz Scaggs and Bryan Ferry, whilst New Wave could only bang at the door.
R.I.P. David Soul.

Really hits when stars of iconic shows/films from our youth pass.
I always think of them being on screen in their pomp and bypassing the ageing process, which us lesser mortals are prone. It's worse now than ever when you can easily find them on screen somewhere in their younger years and forget for a time that they have passed.
As much as I liked him as an actor I've never been convinced on his singing.
RIP
