Growing up when I did and with Bullseye being a constant fixture of viewing in our house he seemed like the working men’s club voice of darts for years.
RIP Tony.

He was Another of those television fixtures that you had when growing up , done the Bdo darts for years and was in front of the camera for Bullseye where he had a great double act with Jim Bowen , will often still watch the old repeats of Bullseye when on. RIP

He was a great commentator on the darts (not the excitableness of Sid Waddell), but of course his greatest achievement was helping to bring darts to a wider audience together with Jim Bowen. The younger comedians (no pun intended) have tended to make fun of Bullseye, but it's probably one of the last big ratings quiz shows without any of the over hyped audiences so common today. And as a viewer of the footage on Challenge TV these days, so nice to see contestants who are normal people, winning money laughed at today, but at the time of filming could be a few weeks wages ( £200-£300 ). I especially liked Tony advising a player who needed to score in the teens to 'think about it' (meaning throw at the left hand side of the board where there was more chance of hitting a larger number).

Remember him from the darts, but like most others, best remembered for Bullseye on Sunday afternoons.
Iiiiiin one...
I actually caught an old episode of Bullseye on TV last Sunday and was thinking how much a part of our Sundays it was back then and it was such a simple, but well executed show.
Jim and Tony played their parts so well that we all remember the phrases decades later and remember them fondly upon their passing.
RIP

I remember when Jim Bowen was on the board at then non league Morecambe F.C. They played Ipswich who I think were Second Division (Championship nowadays) and lost. On Match Of The Day, after they'd shown the highlights, Gary Lineker had a replica of the cup sitting next to him, and his first words after the match were:- '' Jim, look at what you could have won'' (that was one of Jim's catchphrases when contestants who'd gambled for and lost the star prize were shown it anyway).

A sad loss - Tony Green. there is nothing I can add that wouldn't be an echo of the fine comments here on this thread. Played a key part in bringing darts to a wider audience and revered for that.. RIP Mr Green
