www.theguardian.com/film/2024/jan/10/georgina-hale-obituary I remember her as the switchboard girl in Sweeney 2 (the second feature film from The Sweeney) who borrowed Jack Regan's front door key and replaced it by slipping it down the front of his trousers while he was asleep. Also memorable for cooking breakfast in McVicar wearing an apron and nothing else, and as Harry Crawford's mutton-dressed-as-lamb ex-wife in an episode of Boon.

Also Yorkie's "acquaintance" in The Beer Hunter episode of Minder, playing a similar sort of role as she did in McVicar arguably.

More sad news. I also remember her from "The Protectors" episode "Shabolt" which was one of the better episodes of that series. Plus in the "Mark of Satan" episode of "Hammer House of Horror" which was one of my least favourite episodes. She was very good in Sweeney 2 and Minder.
RIP Georgina

Wow. I had no idea she had such a varied career, I hadn't known she was in a lot of Ken Russell's work. I like to think I'm familiar with the UK's TV and movie 'faces'. She even won a BAFTA! Let's be honest, she was doing Euston a favour by appearing in Minder. One of my favourite guest stars, as Renee the ''mod-ell'' RIP Georgina.

Rest in Peace. A similar age to John Thaw
Was married to John Forgeham quite young too. Another distinctive Sweeney and Minder face.

She was in tons of good stuff. Always a welcome presence, popping up in random places. I liked her best in that Hammer House of Horror episode. Probably.
RIP Georgina.

Always had that very posh accent in most of her roles and yet she was born in Ilford in Essex.
RIP Georgina.

Always interesting, eccentric and leftfield, and therefore always a treat to find her figuring in a cast. RIP.

Sad to read, she was always well worth watching in everything she appeared in (particularly as Budgie's wife) Dunno whether or not it was true but i once read she was dyslexic and that her very individual style of acting was down to that? Either way she'll be missed.
RIP Dear lady

Either way she'll be missed. The way she described her school days certainly suggests she had dyslexia.

I only found out about her passing after coming on here.
A very good actress. Always played her parts with both distiction and originality.
RIP

Sad to read this and didn't realise she was 80. I loved her appearance in Minder (one of my favorite one off characters) and as the old friend and guest house owner in One Foot In The Grave, her voice and mannerisms perfect to wind Victor up. For a long time I assumed that she put on that slightly drawn out South East (London/Essex) accent however I once late at night saw the film 'Castaway' and she turned up in a serious role as a nurse (perhaps a Red Cross or similar member) and she spoke like that so I realised it must be her real voice.
I remember reading that she said in later life she struggled to get parts (something that effects actresses once they get older) she said it was as if everything she'd done before and the parts she played hadn't happened. It's the producers/casters and writers loss then as Georgina Hale at any age would brighten up a script and give a memorable performance. RIP

A great cult actress who often seemed younger than she was. I seemed to notice her in The Protectors 'Shadbolt' episode mentioned above by spacecadet, then, as so often with cult-type actors and actresses, you then spot them in many other productions, and begin an appreciation for their breadth of work. I did have the good fortune to meet her at an event arranged on another forum, and she was very genial . R.I.P. Georgina Hale.

She was in an episode of Upstairs Downstairs where James Bellamy takes Diana Newbury on a dirty weekend with her as DN's maid, Violet, and Christopher Beeny as Edward looking after JB. Edward rather rashly describes her to his wife (Daisy) not very politely and, of course gets caught out when Violet takes some things round to Eaton Place. The scene is ended by Daisy's ominous words ''I'll see you later, Eddie'' said in the tones of a wife scenting blood.
