Was thinking the old Derby County manager, but I googled the name and knew the face immediately from many things.

Both his UK hits were written by Madonna, that I didn't know.
Very much a name from the 80s, but still sad he has passed away so young.

Always seemed a decent bloke. Amazed to read that they racked up sales of 120m - that should have seen them comfortable for the rest of their days but as already mentioned, others took more than their fair share. RIP. Yes it is a very shocking story about 4 young lads who were royally ripped off and ended up pennyless after selling all that records. You would be allowed to be a bit bitter at that.
The Rollermania documentary is worth a watch.
I read a great story on Twitter, that one of the Rollers, had a Mother who worked as a Dinnerlady at the local school and the kids would sing 'Shang a Lang' to her daily when she was serving up lunch.

That's a shame to hear.
Has there ever been a more troubled and exploited group than the Rollers?
My Sister was/is a huge fan from back in the day.
RIP Les.

The Bat Out Of Hell composer and writer has died aged 73. He did loads more stuff then Meatloaf, but can't think off the top of my head.
I really don't like his music, but he sold a lot of it and if you grew up in the 70s and 80s there was no escaping it.
RIP Jim

An illustrious list of credits on IMDB. I first noticed him as the middle-aged mummy's boy MI5 agent in The Game. He was really good, investing what could have easily been a comedy caricature with some genuine pathos. His character wasn't always likeable but you sympathised with him. A great shame, for such a fine career to be cut short like that. I was trying to remember The Game when I wrote earlier, as I really liked him in that, but just could remember what it was called. He was also very good in Chernobyl

I was shocked to read this. A good actor who appeared in quite a lot over the years and was very dependable.
Of course, along with many, I know him best from the excellent Friday Night Dinner and in which he was superb in.
No age at all.
RIP Paul

There was a post on Twitter, which was a Q&A from Shoot or Match from the 1970s and in it he was asked who his toughest opponent was/is, he replied 'The Taxman'
Nearly signed for Liverpool in 72, but failed his medical due to high blood pressure.

This goal is etched in my memory... and many an hour was spent in the playground or local wreck trying to copy it... RIP Frank... I only stumbled across that goal a couple of years ago and sure I posted it in the football thread at the time I did. He was capable of that sort of thing at anytime though really.
I only know the later part of his career, but he was some player and lived some life. The sort of player who was respected by all fans as he got you on the edge of your seat.
RIP Frank

A good read that and showed that football was a good escape route out of poverty back in the day. The Saint started off working in the Steelworks and his team mate Ron Yates worked in a meat slaughter house in Aberdeen prior to his move south. Really highlights the difference between then and now.

Sad news indeed. Once of the many Jocks who went south of the border to great success.
I remember the BBC Scotland programme 'Spirit of Shankly' from around 2 years ago and the Saint appeared in it and cried whilst he was speaking about the man, very sad to watch.
Saints and Greavsy was great TV back in the day.

Was in loads of stuff in the 60s and 70s. I watched him in Spring and Port Wine just before Xmas and was in an episode of Randall & Hopkirk too.
Not too many credits for him after the 80s, which seemed to have happened to lots of actors whose faces appear regular on the shows we write about on the forum.

A real shame to read this.
The Supremes were responsible for some of the best songs of all time and despite Diana Ross being the Queen Bee, Mary could sing too and was responsible for starting up the group aged just 15 and pretty sure none of them would have ever expected the level of success they had when they started out.
RIP Mary

This Northern Irish actress was best known for her role as Lilo Lil in 'Bread' who was Freddie Boswells tarty redhead girlfriend who had a fierce temper and raspy voice, when her name was mentioned to Freddie's wife Nellie she would always shout 'she is a tart!'. Although Lilo Lil didn't get a lot of screen time in the episodes Eileen's superb portrayal of her ensured that the British public fondly remembered her character. She has also appeared in shows like 'The Bill', 'Taggart' and 'Travelling Man' as well as being active in the theatre. She died on the 19/12/20. RIP. I saw that at the time, got more coverage than I expected, but Bread was a huge show back in the day and she and chest featured very prominently in it. She was apparently a translator too before coming an actress. RIP Eileen

Caught this tonight on ITV4, which they seem to be showing in the old Profs slot, with the Profs moved to the Sweeney slot.
I do like this episode and despite being an 84 episode, it has a 70s feel to it due to the locations.
I like the part with the lonely old dear making Terry a sandwich. Just the simple ordinariness of that scene makes it stand out.

Interestingly I also watched this today daz! I have to disagree, I really like this one. Yes, there's a few holes in it - Arthur at the train window, how do they get home etc. but this is Christmas classic and Chisholm is top in this. Having watched Murder On The Express the other night, mrs jno watched this Minder episode for the first time this evening. The result was she enjoyed it too but few laugh out loud moments and she said the ending was rubbish. Nevertheless, I watched this Christmas 1985 and it holds a special place for me. The drama is out in this one and this a light hearted Christmas jolly with two guys you want to win, but you just know they won't as they're both losers. A great 80s British TV film, broadcast when Minder was at its peak. It probably got away with a little more back in the day I concede, due to the show being at the height of its popularity when it went out. It was more like a half baked film version of a 70s sitcom, where they throw everying plus the kitchen sink at it and lost something in translation to the big screen for me.
I enjoyed it, but something just didn't feel right about it in my opinion.

Watched this afternoon for the second time ever and whilst it has a lot going for it I for one feel it could have been a case of less is more as so much pointless elements in the episode for me.
The descent into farcical for the characters of Chisholm and Rycott is too evident for me here, just not believable and would be a real common feature in Minder from this point forward and wasn't a fan of.
A lot of good bits to be found throughout the episode and I like the overall story but just too farcical for me in the execution to go above a score of average.

Superb photos (as always). Loved the one with the kids from the stand holding the Charity Sheild. Just wouldn't be allowed to happen in the post 1992 world of sanitised football.
A pity the fans won't be in the stadium for tonights game as they would have done him proud.

I was only on his IMDB page last week as was looking up something relating to Boys from the Blackstuff, which I thought he was superb in and one of my all time favourite pieces of television.
Hadn't had an acting credit on IMDB since 2004.

Another great footballer passes away, aged 74.
I know a few Man City fans who idolised this guy and If I remember correctly, was there not a banner with his name on it during scenes in the Italian Job?

Watched this evening and enjoyed it. Just a nice episode to enjoy and get a laugh at.
Probably mentioned before, but one the extras who was with tic tac in the Winchester and outside the house, is sitting in the pub, left of the stage, in a blue t-shirt whilst Terry is waiting for LR to turn up.
Nice to see Terry get a proper job at the end and pretty sure he would have proved himself and become a success.
