This is sad ... of course Mike Baldwin is the face, but pre 1974 he was in a STACK of British TV.

Very sad news, Mike Baldwin was by far my favourite character from Coronation Street when I used to watch it in the 80s and 90s.
He played the cocky, charismatic small businessman so well and he was my second favourite TV character to drive a Jaguar XJ. His cars suited the character so well. A great, very watchable actor who took part in some of TV's most watched storylines.

In loads of stuff. Mostly remember him from Corrie and 1970s British sex comedies.
RIP JB.

Forgot Mike Baldwin drove an XJ. Added a bit of interest to Coronation street the odd times I watched it.

Sad to learn , as has been mentioned he appeared in a whole selection of very watchable film and TV long before Coronation Street and stardom beckoned.
RIP Sir

Very sad news.
Will always be best known for playing Mike Baldwin, in Coronation Street, but before his Coronation Street days, Johnny Briggs, appeared in over 20 films, and some well known TV series.
I have never been a fan of Soap Operas, but Coronation Street, has always been the exception, I don't watch the series, now, but have got many episodes on DVD.
I just looked on the IMDb Website, and I have got 14 films, which Johnny Briggs, appeared in.
R.I.P. Johnny Briggs.

Appeared in loads of stuff, but will always be remembered as Mike Baldwin, from a time when Corrie was very watchable.

Nowadays, with the growth of universities etc, people frequently move around the country, but in 1976 a London businessman opening a factory in Manchester and becoming an important part of the community was a notable occasion.
Johnny Briggs played the character extremely well, as a 'wideboy' amidst the factory workers who hadn't travelled far from their home area.
Unlike many other leading 'Coronation Street' actors (certainly at that time) he was a known face prior to this, appearing in e.g. many 60s films and ITC shows in support parts.
R.I.P. Johnny Briggs.
