Saturday mornings for me growing up were all about Space 1999, so he'll always be Commander John Koenig, drifting through the cosmos... RIP Martin

I must have watched this less than 6 time.. which says it all really. Its so out of kilter with the rest of the series, its embarrassingly poor and its only spared from being marked as rubbish by one or two funny lines

I notice one of the UK DVD releases from Clearvision has a 'Famous Faces' quiz contained on the DVD. Not entirely sure if this was a very poor attempt to get people to invest or not. Has anyone played this Clearvision 'extra'? I'll take a butchers tonight and let you know jno

Its certainly going to be interesting to see what Network make of this episode when/if the Blu-Ray transfer ever takes place. Silk purse out of a sows ear springs to mind

Watched last night. I totally agree with jno on Baker's character/heavy handed gangster. He should have reprised his role from series one.. And one of my gripes with Minder is that it doesn't happen often enough, it being self referential about the community it creates.. There are countless opportunities for repeat characters and in-jokes that aren't used. Anyway, this episode had numerous highlights for me.. The way Arthur says Justin and it sounds a little too much like Justine, and then he goes onto say it's one of those 'either or names like Leslie or Billy' Another bit which made me chuckle was the line 'ones man's firewood is another man's porcupine whatsernames'. Justin squaring up to Baker's heavies, Arthur in the court room.. Scene after scene of amusing lines. Top episode. One of the best late Terry episodes... "Ohhh.... I've gone and burnt me wassaname!"
With regards continuity, I try and remember that if we'd been watching this episode in 1988, a full 9 years would have passed between George Baker appearing as a similar but different character in series 1, so I doubt we would have noticed then... but because we tend to eat/drink/sleep Minder, or in my case, watch series 1-7 in a matter of a couple of weeks, its far more noticeable. But Baker is a great villain nonetheless, under both names

It appears he had quite a dry sense of humour, some of the quotes attributed to him via the link below made me laugh out loud: www.BBC.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-40017148It looks like the wit he brought to Bond was far closer to real Sir Roger than I ever gave him credit. RIP Sir Roger...

I've just come to the end of yet another very enjoyable Terry years trawl but next time, I'm going to swap Fiddler on the Hoof with this episode as the former has a much more befitting ending to Terry's reign as Arthur's Minder... now off to try (for the umpteenth time) to embrace the Ray years again with the same amount of enthusiasm...

Its funny, I've not watched this special very much over the years, but I enjoyed giving it an airing last night as part of my trawl through the Terry years. Is it just me though or is the incidental music dreadful? Following on from my previous comments in the Waiting for Goddard thread, with the recasting of actors/actresses as different characters in other Minder episodes, I've found 12 in this special! Karl Howman (All About Scorin' Innit), Linal Haft (In & A Fridge Too Far), Arthur Whybrow (Around the Corner & Last Temptation of Daley), Maurice Denham (The Birdman of Wormwood Scrubs), James Faulkner (The Car Lot Blaggers), Jonathan Kydd (A Number of Old Wives Takes & Broken Arrow), Frank Duncan (Willesden Suite), Milton Cadman (Back in Good Old England), Richard Linford (The Wrong Goodbye), Hans Meyer (The Smaller they Are), Debbie Arnold (Life in the Fast Food Lane) & Roger Tallon (Give Us Our Daley Bread) No doubt jno will find more

I'm working my way through the Terry years yet again and I'm not a great lover of the darker overtones between Arthur and Terry in this one... but as an aside, does this episode have the most amount of actors making reappearances as different characters? Apart from the obvious recasting of Ronald Fraser and Kenneth Cope, Donald Douglas makes his second Minder appearance as Mr Prosser, after previously showing up as one of the wine tasters in "A Nice Little Wine" [S02 E07]...

I'm working my way from the start to finish of the Terry McCann years again and am intrigued by Terry's use of the phrase "you've been at the long firm again" in reference to the lock up full of what he thinks is hooky gear. This has bugged me for quite some time so please put me out of my misery, what is the connection between the two?

Very sad news. He was of course in Minder's "Get Daley". RIP Gordon. Allo Allo was never my cup of tea, but I really like his rather eccentric performance as Wendy's put upon heavy in Get Daley. The bit when he creeps into the hospital to put the frighteners on Arthur always makes me smile. Same for me... other than Minder, he also appeared, albeit briefly, as a syrup wearing TV news anchor Maynard Lavery in a super Last of the Suumer Wine episode titled The Last Surviving Maurice Chevalier Impression RIP Gorden...

I suppose it's a lot harder to 'fix' a Greyhound race as there is no human participation in the actual event. Unless you have a large economy jar of Colman's and apply it to the dogs nether regions

Marmite for me all the way (toast/cheese on toast/spag bol/sheppard & cottage pie)... but I recently picked up a small Tesco's own brand Marmite after reading several reports when it looked like there were going to be shortages, that its similar to the real thing, but slightly milder... and cheaper too

I think that's a bit harsh chaps... having seen Bad Manners live (Cartoon in Croydon circa 2008) I can assure you there is more to them than the apparent novelty nature of the selection of tunes above. They were fantastic and had the audience in the palm of their hand. Check them out, they will be at various locations around the UK during November, December & January undertaking their 40th Anniversary Tour - click here for more details

Strange episode for me this... I can't watch it without thinking that the dreadful Paul Nicholas is going to pop out at any moment looking for his Pen... having said that, the scene in the hotel foyer when Arthur is looking for a brass is one of my top 5 laugh out loud Minder moments... "this is purely professional Andrew, purely professional"

One odd scene though was Dave greeting Sprott so amiably in the Winchester. Given its a members club, and judging by the clientele and Dave's discretion a Plod free one, it seemed a bit unlikely that he would ever have been a member and for Dave so openly friendly to not only the old bill but a bent one at that! A small quibble in a great episode. Possibly because he was a bent copper? Not that we find out what he did
