So sad. 96 is a great age to reach. A quality character actor whose career spanned from 1958 until 2010. I particularly liked him in 'Taste the Blood of Dracula' (1969).

Just one of those instantly recognisable faces and voices of British TV. He never seemed to sound or look any different, ever. He'll be sadly missed. RIP Peter.

Sad news, Peter Sallis, will always be best remembered as Norman Clegg, in the long running BBC Sitcom Last of the Summer Wine.
I will also remember Peter, in other TV series (which I have seen), including Doctor Who - The Ice Warriors (1967), The Capone Investment (1974), The Clifton House Mystery (1978) and Tales of the Unexpected - A Picture of a Place (1980), which was shown on the Sky Arts channel, today, at 5.00pm.
I will also remember Peter, in the Hammer film Taste the Blood of Dracula (1970).
R.I.P. Peter Sallis.

This was very sad news to hear, as I am a huge Wallace and Gromit fan, I will go against the majority on here and admit I used to like Last of the Summer Wine,up until the character Seymour appeared, which was probably his biggest acting role, but he did so much.
He will live on forever with W&G, as it is simply timeless, I think he was very happy with the success this gave him in his advancing years.
96 is a very good innings, but still a shame to here
RIP

Just watched episode 5 of 'The Capone Investment', stopped it and Sky News came on saying he'd died.
Sad news, so much more than Last of The Summer Wine and very much looking forward to the finale of 'The Capone Investment' next Sunday on Talking Pictures TV.
RIP Peter Sallis
P.S. More Cheese Gromit

Peter Sallis's performance in The Capone Investment has impressed me also. After growing up with him as the timid and quiet Cleggy it was interesting to see him play the role of a secret sevice officer who is murky, mysterious and sometimes intimidating. He seemed to handle both roles equally well.
Very sad to hear of his passing - RIP.

More Cheese Gromit I've not seen episode 5 yet, but having seen the edited 'movie' version, I can say that he steals the end scenes and I'm sure Barry will agree with me.

Anybody who's only familliar with PS's comical roles should really watch this serial to understand his acting ability as a serious character.

Yes, I knew Peter first and foremost in LOTSW where he played the unassuming and fairly timid character.
It was a revelation in subsequent years to see him playing parts in numerous cult films and TV. Often as a villain or other 'dark-type' character.
RIP Peter Sallis.

I remember seeing him as Mr Bennett in a stage production of Pride and Prejudice in Birmigham back in the late 80s. We were studying the novel at school and our English teacher thought it would be helpful if we saw the play. Never my favourite book, but Peter Sallis did a fine job as the narrator figure in bringing out the humour in Austen's rather fussy prose. As others have pointed out, much more to him as an actor than Cleggy and the voice of Wallace and Grommit.
