This one starts with a short message "All characters in Minder are fictitious and are not intended to portray any living person". It features a host of famous faces including Mrs Waterman of the time Patricia Maynard, Derek Fowlds (of "Basil Brush", "Yes Minister" and "Heartbeat" fame), Suzi Quatro and is the very first episode to feature Michael Povey as Chisholm's sidekick DC Jones. It is also the episode that features the great scene of Arthur fainting at the lockup when he thinks he sees a ghost (which we all know is really a dog). Link to episode on minder.org: www.minder.org/episodeguide/S03E01_DeadMenDoTellTales.htm Here is an article advertising the return of the series from The Daily Express from Wednesday 13th January 1982. (Apologies for the quality)

Always makes me laugh when Arthur faints. The very red lips when we first see him talking to Dave look really odd.

A scene which always makes me chuckle in this episode is of Arthur emerging out of the plunge pool in the Sauna parlour,
"Chaaa! I thought you said it was warm?"
The Sauna joint doesn't look particularly plush to me, an establishment from the cheaper end of the market I'd say but a great location.

Watched tonight, another good episode. Monty Wiseman an even bigger crook, but not so loveable as our Arthur.
I like Derek Fowlds, has this way of being funny without even trying, probably more remembered as the policeman off Heartbeat, but always Bernard Wooley from the Yes Minister/Prime Minister series to me.
Another priceless performance from George Cole in this one, especially the scene when the dog is under the coffin, most actors would have overplayed that scene, but not GC, brilliant.

jno, wasn't Monty Wiseman the name of someone Tony Hoare knew? I think he tried to sue for libel, but they settled out-of-court eventually.

I watched this episode yesterday afternoon and two things struck me, the Suzi Quatro song LIP STICK is the same tune as THE DOORS cover version of GLORIA by VAN MORRISON AND THEM. Also the lock up is by a river!

Also the lock up is by a river! During the last scene of 'Poetic Justice...' when Terry is telling Arthur exactly what he thinks of him, it's a boats air-horn that drowns out Terrys final expletive.

Sorry, what I meant was the lock up is right next to the river, you can see the railings and the rubber rings.

This episode is worth watching just for the scene with Arthur and the "ghost". Mr. Cole surpassed himself in that one scene.

A quality scene without doubt and one of the more comedy led episodes. The scenes with the coffin on the roof of Arthurs Jag and the coffin sliding down the steps of Terrys flat just as Chisholm turns up are farcical but very funny.

Love the shots of Amen Corner in Tooting and the Broadway. Born and bred around that area.

A great comedy episode for the 1st of the season - brilliant scenes with the dog in the lock up - also Arthur leaving the handbrake off the van as they are trying to load the coffin in - Terry disapproves of Nancy s smoking habit & she compares him to a cop as they walk by the river - Wiseman s assistant Randolph bares a striking resemblance to Boris Johnson !! - A rare appearance for Arthur s dark green Jag TAN488M -complete with very 70s brown vinyl roof - also check out that velour upholstery on the Vauxhall Royale driven by Randolph - a rather nice Mercedes convertible is parked opposite Terry s flat at the end

A definite shift towards more comedy. There are so many great lines here. My favourite being Chisholm's "Body snatching went out with Burke and Hare." Plus so many puns on the dead. Suzy Q looked very good. Not sure how suited her role was and we could have done without Terry's pasty body getting massaged but this is a classic 10/10.

Great episode - an easy 4/5. Some great moments & a fine series 3 opener! As one says - I forgot Arthur's "other Jag" a stop-gap. Also,Terry has a nearly new Capri - looked like a 1.6 GL or even a Ghia, but I'm not sure if they made a 1.6 Gaia for too long.

I love Monty Wiseman - he is such a crook! I was going to use him as my username. I like the bit where he is in the sauna with Arthur, and Monty says "Arthur, the last time I saw a pair of legs like that they had a message tied to them".

When I started watching Minder again from the beginning I've been looking forward to seeing this episode again. So many great moments, great lines and great characters. The scene with the "ghost " was even funnier the second and third time. I had to rewind and watch again. The way Arthur goes out of his way to avoid saying any word related to death and his discomfort with the whole situation involving the body is played wonderfully by George Cole.
An excellent episode and a great choice to kick off Season Three.
Side note. My Region 1 copy doesn't have the notice at the beginning about characters living or dead etc.

There are so many humourous scenes in this from the outset. Trying to load the transit with coffin, Derek Fowlds face when they arrive at the lockup. The coffin coming off the jag...there is endless comedy gold in this episode.

Started to watch this today, good start, THEN Suzie Quatro appears! I switched off. I cannot stand her character in the show. A spectacular own goal casting her. I'm sure others here love her in the show, but not me. Not in the slightest.

I'm sure others here love her in the show, but not me. Not in the slightest. I don't mind the character but I do agree that casting SQ was a mistake. Casting a rock star as a rock star just seems lazy. The same storyline with a run of the mill actress cast as Nancy would have been better.
