Sad to hear. Loved some of this series, dated for sure, but good comedic moments will always be good....loved the scene from the film when Blakey puts his hand on a Lions head (when its on the bus behind him) and says "Oh Butler...there you are.." and many more He was a great nemesis...

Now that there Freddie Baker, he was one nasty looking villain! Shame he wasn't used more often, especially as he and Terry obviously had some previous... Yep, Freddie was a great villain...but Tell wasn't scared
"I'm going to claim that Baker..."

jno - "and Richard Briers does nothing for me in this role" Same here! RBs role needed someone more sinister, Richard Briers made it clown-like, which basically destroyed any semblance of reality the story line ever had! But this aside, not too bad an ep, until the last 15 mins or so.

Seriously top ep this one Sparkling script throughout (for every character): Just a few lines (apart from those mentioned): Arthur - "I've got a punter for these, with his tongue hanging out" Arthur - "Church on the right, pub on the left" Dave - "You've just handed over 2 and a half grand to Frank Sinatra and Adolf Hitler" Arthur - "Part of the tactics of marriage, Mr Chisholm" Arthur - "What about poor Arthur Daley - this has been a right unmitigated" Arnie - "Its the River Filth!" Arnie - "so how much duty free do we get?" Terry - "Thanks Arthur - you've given me my big chance.." Great early lock up action too with Jones going for a new jacket and then getting tangled in the phones

Bit of a strange one this, Terry's attitude is a bit off throughout for me, a really complex 'dodgy deal' (never really fully understood it!) and some major overdubbing of the baddies in the hotel room! And the older priest came across as a real nasty card. Dodgy photographer and a young teen 'flashing her harris all over the gaff" as Arthur would say. But some great parts also - Pongo, Arthur getting bladdered and a great scrap with the 'priests'!

Clearly a favourite among some fans, but not one of my own. But as with almost all eps there's always some great stuff to find. "Shooters Terry!" and I think jno makes a great point...in this one, Terry truly is a Minder!

Yes, great ep...also like the scene where the bus breaks down and Arthur starts making up the story of the statue near by....and goes on about how the soldiers preferred to attack on the weekend (or similar)...as "all the lads were on double time" ! Class.

Quite like this one and yes, agree, it does have a different vibe to it. But I find this ep difficult to watch as Rod is quite high on my 'Most annoying characters in Minder' list...(with Franks ex-girlfriend from Rembrandt topping it).

Great story about the trip to Windsor jno...now that's dedication! Glad you got lucky in the end. Strange you mention about its 'modern feel' - Ive always thought this too! Overall a good Ray ep in my opinion...and love Tiny bringing the Allegro into the car lot "granted it has a touch of the old Telly Savalas' (meaning bald tyres I guess) Arthur even tells Ray to put the car lot window in

No problem arnie. Can't say I've solved it for sure but I personally think its about the fact the you cant slip a flexible card into a door that is mortice locked. Maybe wrong though! Cheers, VAT.

Just noticed from some hand written notes in the script pack - other actors 'pencilled in' for roles include - Joanna Lumley or Carol Royle as Caroline Selby and Michael Hordern as Goddard!

Yes, interesting the use of 'Loid it' or 'Lloyd it' in this one...I remember on the 'old forum' there was quite a long discussion exactly where this phrase came from if memory serves me right...
I have the script for this one and its down as: Terry - "You cant 'Loid a mortice Arthur" and 2 things I've just noticed (on checking it) - one is that I'm sure Terry says "Don't be silly (or stupid) Arthur you can't....etc) in the actual ep (?) so may be a bit of ad libbing by Terry left in....and it also seems as though the director (RWB) put the apostrophe just before the word "loid" in by hand, meaning an abbreviation?
I'm sure someone suggested its short for celluloid...where you use a bank card or similar to open a Yale type lock?
Bizarrely its also a term used in the USA it seems....as a few years ago I came across almost the exact same phrase, including the term 'Loid' in a Dean Koontz book!

Great episode this - has one of my all time fave Arthur lines...when he threatens to look into Ted's so called Trust Fund for his son..."all we'll find is a couple of old buttons and a dead rat" Love this line and use it myself to this day

One of my favourite Minder locations in this one. The private/illegal drinking club above the row of shops where Fred and Ted hang out. This is typical of the kind of dodgy place you'd find a few 'likely lads' I always think. I've always wondered if this was an authentic venue or a made up location to suit the script. Down as just "Speiler" BTB!

One of my favourite ever eps. So much good stuff in this one "Dave....can I have some water..." "Water???" "....and here you are having a quiet fish...." "Always willing to help an old friend Cecil" "The Thames...." "Do you mind...." "I do not care if it's a corniche pasty...." "She's got these feet you see" "The VAT man on a boat??" "The Japs have got this down to a fine art you know....top notch falling down juice" Just so many one liners for me make this one a treat VAT

Yes, overall, a good late Terry episode and another appearance for Big Stan. And Arthur buying the vicars knocked off telly!! Chisholm getting nicked and hoiked off in the garden! lol!! Many good bits. Just let down (for me) on occasion by Terry's sometimes poor attitude (especially at the quarry collecting rocks etc).

The great thing is, Bernie The Bosh is first mentioned in "Looking For Micky". Nice one Swainy! Never connected the dots on this one before. Thanks I like this episode, slightly unbelievable overall story line granted, but enough in other areas to like. Caravan going up was good and the bucket of water out of the window! And yes, I too liked the menacing build up to The bosh and the twist at the end...and I always enjoy seeing Arthur off his manor. And the skinheads in the café with Ray always make me laugh (for some reason).

Yes - Maurice's place in 'Aces High' is the same as in 'The Long Good Friday' and thanks to my old pal VAT and his paperwork for this episode it can be found at 9 Elm Lodge, River Gardens, Stevenage Rd, Fulham, SW6 - or here: goo.gl/maps/XqZuDCheers jno (and to nry of course for his ever sterling work...). I love this ep too, as jno says, has lots of dodgy goings on which early Minder was great for. The one thing I've always thought was when Maurice was driving back home after losing (first game) and he barks to Terry "Quiet" (at the traffic lights) until his music finishes...I know he was probably very stressed out off after losing etc...but a bit harsh in my book! Tell was only there to hep him out...but Maurice wasa great character, real shame we never saw more of him....

Yes, a strange-ish episode for sure. Arthur comes back to the flat expecting to find Albert there...only to find Terry birding it up on the sofa and Albert gone. I really think Arthur felt let down by Terry. I'm not sure if Arthur did anything wrong in this ep, just trying to ensure Albert got his rightful inheritance. And Terry just let him go off somewhere. I think that's why as jno says he found it hard to apologise to Terry. May be wrong though...

Yes, great episode I like this one a lot...and a great cameo by Roger Brierly as Cyril the Antiques expert Even though Arthur was 'done' by Ray and Cyril he still makes a few hundred sovs off the fireplace deal

Watching this one the other evening on ITV4. Near the end of the episode the two heavies go into the house to evict the young family and Terry goes in after them. Whilst Terry is making his way through the house, he gets out a cigarette lighter to help him see where he's going. As a non smoker, why would Terry be carrying a lighter? Good point BTB...never thought about this before...perhaps a back up for Arthur, but yes, seems strange! Probably the Director suggested it for tension etc. cant remember any other ep where Terry lights up?

This ep has one of the best ever Minder scenes...on the train to Brighton! Sheer class, Arthur & Terry swaying all over the place, buying a fruit pie and dodgy sandwich and moving out of the way for backpackers and Arthur telling Terry about Mugs and "Pakistani craftsmen or no Pakistani craftsmen!"
