Well I (and I think jno thinks this too) was always under the impression that the way this episode turned out, was the reason that Dennis Waterman quit the show. Makes me wonder if he stormed off set or just went down the pub and didn’t want to come back Very interesting 👌 thanks

Missing on his last episode ever filmed eh? That's interesting thanks Swainy...I'd never thought before that this was DWs last Minder to be filmed!

It could also be An Officer & A Car Salesman that he was referring to. That is certainly a far larger and more mange-ridden canine than this one Yes Swainy Thinking about it you're probably right - if he was referring to the quality of the episode as Broken Arrow turned out a great episode. But technically, at least from the scripting aspect, Broken Arrow looked very difficult and took a lot of re-writes to film. Cheers VAT

Roy Ward Baker mentions in his memoirs that one of the episodes of Minder he directed was "an absolute dog" or some such. This one then, d'you think? Yes I think it probably was...the whole script is full of handwritten notes and pink over writes...much more so than any others of his I have...

I have the director script for this ep...it was difficult to finalize….loads of pink overwrites. And some ad libs not on the script eg. at the hospital where Arthur getting his coffee from the machine says..."someone up there loves me"..." and Terrys remark "well that's just as well, cos no one down here does" was not scripted.

I had forgot Peter Jeffery (aka Clive Stannard in this ep) was also Napper Wainright in the brilliant Porridge ...worse than Mackay....

Nowadays ad breaks seem to go on and on. A tv show just the other day went to an ad break just five minutes in. The ads lasted six minutes! When the show came back on, it was only nine minutes before it was off again for another five minutes of ads! DVDS mate, the only watch Minder

Are there other episodes of Minder where someone has been completley re-dubbed by a different actor? Yes, two spring to mind ... (a) Bettina's flatmate Joan at the end of 'A Nice Little Wine' (b) The newsagent at the start of 'Goodbye Sailor' Also the copper driver in If Money Be The Food Of Love when the tyre blows out ?

No, I have the UK 20-disc box set, The Dennis Waterman Years. It would appear that the ep in question is unavailable in the UK. Wait, what?! I have that set too and didn't realise this one was missing.
Good job I am reading through this thread first as I set it to record on +1 and not just remind me when it starts, absolute classic episode and I would have hated to miss it completely.
Just for info - as ltd mentioned...its on the Freemantle set

A guy that worked for Action Cars often sells copies of paperwork for this episode on a well known auction site. Nice to see Arthur Daley's mobile number at the top. One of my fave episodes...so I've just bought a copy to add to my Minder collection...only a few quid

Watching it again Umbrella style so has the ad breaks...is this the only episode that has the non-Minder theme music start the the ad breaks? (coming back in after the ads is the normal Minder tune)?

Just watched this one again...Umbrella style...and what a great ep it is...Terry on good form, Wally West, June Whitfield and Jimmy Nail playing their parts really well...but a big shout out for GC in this one in particular for me...with Arthur being the thread throughout...his scenes with WW, Mr De-Ath and June Whitfield being perfect as usual!

GC is on top form as Arthur in this one for me...every scene he is in, he is brilliant. Flawless delivery. "It makes you wanna reach out and give it a sugar lump." A truly great scene, GC is fantastic

I always thought there was something unnatural about the way he hung from that beam VAT, its almost like he's hiding a line securing him to it... but its still a way up! Do you know what Wynn, I hadn"t thought of that! A secret wire securing him....nice one, its put my mind at rest

Still one of my all time fave episodes...Rycott inheriting death duties in the form of Carp...Mournful and a fox fur basil brush would change his act for, good old London pub singalong with Jimmy Fagg...and Arthur and Terry both on great form... OOHH its water....

A strange episode this one as I've often commented. Arthur and Terry seem to be at each throats a bit throughout this one...for example when Arthur blows up inside Albert's flat after Albert predicts his star sign..and goes outside and lets Terry know he's not welcome back in...but still I maintain I'm not sure what Arthur did wrong in this one....he's bunked Albert up somewhere nice and comes back to find Albert gone and Terry on the sofa more interested with his latest conquest...but its not the first time we see a bitter falling out between them though of course....Monday Night Fever for example...but, and I have no evidence of this of course, I feel there were clearly strains between GC and DW during this series, perhaps due to pressures in DWs personal life at the time, ....I personally think its evident also in Give Us This Day Arthur Daleys Bread... Umbrella re-watch - seems Terry in particular is on Arthurs back throughout this one - starting at the opening in the bank....seems Arthur can hardly say a word throughout the whole episode, without some remark by Terry....strange undercurrent all the way through this one...

Loving re-watching Minder on the Umbrella sets...and noticed that this is the ep we first meet Des (?) And I'd forgotten he was taking Terry around nicking motors in this one! Makes more continuity now when Des says to Terry while packing up his tools in his garage in You need Hands about nicking motors - "Yes I could go out and nick a nice new Merc or BMW..but I've given all that up now..."

Yes, top ep all the way Right to the end with Arthur trying to switch the TV on and disguising his attempt as trying to waft the smoke from his cigar away to his face right at the end when Terry says "What is this Dom Perignon anyway?" Pretty sure you'd mixed this up with the other big boxing episode, from series 2, I tend to do that as well sometimes Haha yeah wrong ep by me definitely (like you say, I do sometimes mix these two up!)
