I think that's ONLY Olive left now. Very dated 'comedy' with Stan and Jacks antics that would get them arrested these days. RIP Blakey

Yes, I cringe at it now. Really cringe. Best left in the 70's.

Yes, I cringe at it now. Really cringe. Best left in the 70's. You would think that but I remember one of my ex-partners had a daughter aged 5 or 6 in 2011 (I can't remember which now - age not partner/daughter) and she sat down to watch On The Buses because I was channel surfing one day and left it on.. Next thing I know she's hooting with laughter and having a great time. Enquiring what it was and when it's next on tele when it finished!??! Women (no matter how little) never cease to amaze me with their actions.. RIP Blakey..

I really rate 'On the Buses'. Sad to hear of Stephen's passing. He was a good age though.
RIP Blakey (he has finally caught Stan and Jack's bus to the Cemetery Gates).

Sad to hear. Loved some of this series, dated for sure, but good comedic moments will always be good....loved the scene from the film when Blakey puts his hand on a Lions head (when its on the bus behind him) and says "Oh Butler...there you are.." and many more He was a great nemesis...

I think On the Buses is still funny to watch, not PC by any means, but still raises a chuckle.
I have a film on DVD he wrote called Sparrows Can't Sing, not a bad watch if you have never seen it before.
RIP Blakey.

RIP Stephen
On the buses was a comedy of its day. Not to my taste, though.

Very much a show I would watch 'if it was on' - like most things we discuss on here of course it is dated but still very enjoyable now and again nevertheless, taking us back to a different part of our lives. He was a very manic character in On The Buses but played superbly. RIP Blakey

Stephen Lewis would have been good in 'Minder'. "I 'ate you McCann! Leave that stripper alone. C'mon, you're 20 minutes late. That dodgy vehicle is needed at the car lot... Oh my gawd, you've made my day."

My Dad's mate was a bus driver. When I was younger If I ever got on his bus I would do my Blakey impression saying, 'errr you're twenty minutes late, Butler!' The whole bus would laugh!!! Believe it or not he told me to p**s off once for doing it!!!! I think it was after the hundredth time I had done it!!! Some People have no sense of humour!!

Stephen Lewis was a talented man who did other things than On the Buses and was probably not very stretched by most of the work he got offered. Like some of the other posters here I find On the Buses dire these days, absolutely cringeworthy. I still watch it though, open mouthed and with a deep sense of horror really. The audience scream and howl with laughter at the most feeble jokes. Having said that Blakey was quite an enduring character, he did well to create him.

Yeah, how many bus comedies/series was there? Where does that leave me? My dad was a lorry driver for most of his post-war life.

Parts of the show were true to life, as the job was in those days.
Like a lot of ITV comedies, it went for low brow, nudge, nudge, wink, wink jokes. It also could be slapstick and farcical.
It didn't have the writing depth of Clement & La Frenais, or even Perry & Croft.
But the actors involved were very good.
RIP Stephen Lewis.

I think on the buses is still funny today to watch. Thought the feature lengths where better than the episodes. Rip Stephen Lewis.
