Just been confirmed from a member of Brian's family.
Brian was the bass player in The Shadows during their most successful period (1962-1963) in terms of record sales and Number 1 hit singles. He played on at least four Number ones, as well as appearing in the film 'Summer Holiday'. He was also a member of Marty Wilde's Wildcats and played bass on Donovan's first recording.
His nickname, 'Licorice', came from the fact that he also played the clarinet - nicknamed the 'licorice stick'.

R.I.P. Edward. You changed everything. After 1978, surely every rock guitarist tried to be Eddie. Saw Van Halen in 1993 in Birmingham. Fantastic.

R I P - the BEST Avengers girl and one of the best Bond girls. A stunning beauty and a great actress. Once seen, never forgotten. I shall watch an episode of The Avengers tonight.

When I went to see The Shadows in 1981, they closed the show (unusually) with the theme to Chariots of Fire. This is the closest I've been to seeing the film!
I think, when you look at him, Ben Cross had that old-fashioned, classic look, that made him perfect for things like Chariots of Fire, The Far Pavilions and the Flame Trees of Thika, The Citadel, etc...
Mind you, he also played Sarek in Star Trek, so clearly he had range. A great actor from what I recall and I shall definitely watch 'Black Out' again this year.

This fantastic composer/musician/arranger died back in March, although I only just discovered this. One of the most respected and in demand professionals in his field. I remember hearing his 'Footsteps on the Moon' for the first time in the early 1970s, courtesy of a flexi disc that came with Ready Brek. I hadn't realised then just how legendary and important this record (and the album from which it came) and the man himself would become. I have just heard that particular tune for the first time in almost 50 years and I found that a) I remembered it almost perfectly and b) it made me feel very, very strange hearing it again. An incredibly evocative piece. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_Harris_(musician)www.heraldscotland.com/opinion/18376003.obituary-johnny-harris-one-worlds-greatest-musical-arrangers/

Bought this off ebay. Just arrived. Only cost £17.99, which is nothing compared to what some of them have been going for lately. Sounds good and takes me back to the good old days. Or rather... back to the future!

Great actor. He was in so many things; not least of all Danger UXB and Doctor Who: 'The Caves of Androzani'.

...nah... not that old.
It's new. I bought the smallest and cheapest one I could, because I wanted something for the conservatory and there's virtually no free space in there. It actually sounds OK, albeit a bit tinny; but if I want to play records out there, then it's pretty much that or nothing. The main hi-fi is inaccessible at the moment and is in pieces anyway. It'll do until I can afford to refurbish and sound proof the East Wing and buy a mile and a half of high quality speaker cable. And hire someone to turn the records over for me.

Impossible to say. CD is great because the sound quality is (usually) superb and you can get up to 80 minutes of music per disc... meaning you can sit down and listen, uninterrupted, for longer! In theory, anyway! And they are hard, although not impossible, to damage. Vinyl has a great deal of nostalgia and sentimentality attached and, let's face it, the best songs/albums of all time were released for the first time on vinyl. And this will never change. It's also aesthetically more pleasing than a CD and the craze for coloured vinyl has produced some really nice looking discs. And the gatefold sleeve is usually something to behold! The downside is that each side of an LP is usually 20 mins max, so you have to get up out of your chair to turn it over almost as soon as you've got yourself comfy! Also, let it be said, they are easy to damage or scratch. Having said that, a pristine piece of vinyl on a good system sounds incredible! Not exactly Hi-Fi I know - Lo-Fi would be a more accurate description! - but good enough for the conservatory. And don't ask me why I stuck a piece of masking tape on the tone arm!

It is with much sadness that I have to announce the passing of my twin brother David, who many of you on the forum will know as fellow forum member thecraftyleek. Always positive, he had been bravely battling cancer for just over a year and aged 46, was taken from this world far too soon. Growing up, we'd often watch a lot of TV together, we went to school together, he was my bandmate and being my twin, was pretty much there every day of my life for the last 46 years. He was a keen historian and very talented musician and always enjoyed coming to this forum. Obviously, I can't write 46 years of memories in a single post, but all I'll say is, he was a great guy, and everyone like him. At times like this it is difficult to know what to say other than perhaps something he said to me recently: "They made not find a cure for this in my lifetime, they may not find one in your lifetime, but they will find one".Cancer is a cruel disease that affects so many people in so many ways. Throughout the last year, Macmillan Cancer Support went that extra mile to help my twin brother out of the many difficult places he found himself in. I will be eternally grateful for the help they gave him when he needed it most.. Macmillan Cancer Support provide physical, emotional and financial support to help people live life as best they can in extremely difficult circumstances. I hate asking people for money, but if you want to help people out, especially those helping other people out who need it most, please feel free to make a donation to Macmillan Cancer Support, even if it's a quid, it doesn't matter, if you want to do something positive today, go here: www.macmillan.org.uk/donateWhen this pandemic ends, it is my intention to organise a charity concert, raising money for Macmillan in his honour at a pub in South Wales. Cheers jno This is sad and terrible news. Very sorry to hear it. Condolences.

Terrible shame. I remember hearing 'No More Heroes' for the first time, back in '77, and it was definitely the keyboards that made that song for me. Same with 'Golden Brown' a few years later. I bought a box set of the Stranglers albums only a year or so ago. Definitely a brilliant keyboard player and an integral part of the band. Impossible to replace.

That's a shame. I believe she had been unwell for some time. I sometimes watched The Gentle Touch back in the day, and often watched C.A.T.S. Eyes.

Neither. If my neighbours broke the Lockdown with a barbecue, I'd shoot them. Thus eliminating that problem and saving the police the trouble of having to come round and give them a good kicking. Also, by the time they (and their guests) had been missed the local and visiting wildlife - cats, foxes, rats, crows, seagulls - would have made short work of their bodies, having been attracted by the barbecue. So I'd have done them a favour too. All's well that ends well.

I remember borrowing 'The New Goodies L.P.' from the local library many times. Some great songs on it... Cricklewood Shakedown, Please Let Us Play, I'm a Teapot, Rock with a Policeman and, of course, Funky Gibbon. Great stuff. Always watched The Goodies and I feel it's a shame that they have never really been repeated. My brother left these books in his bedroom when he left home... they're mine now! R.I.P. Tim.

The original Avengers girl - whose DNA was definitely in all the others. People talk about her as 'Pussy Galore', but I think 'Cathy Gale' was probably more important.

Sorry to hear this. He was a nice bloke; met him back in 2016 and interviewed him for something. I watched 'The Psychobombs' only about a week ago and 'Revenge of the Cybermen' very recently too.

Funnily enough, I haven't watched his interview from that DVD yet (if it's the second one). I shall probably now watch it later.
I think he's in three episodes of UFO. Kill Straker!, Destruction and The Long Sleep (in the latter I think he's the guy in the car with Straker when he runs down Catherine Frazer). He was literally immortalised in The Empire Strikes Back when he doubled for Harrison Ford for that scene in which he's frozen in a block of carbon, or whatever it is.

At the moment I'm in the middle of watching the Complete Upstairs, Downstairs box set and have just got to the episodes that cover the war years - WWI that is. Christopher Beeny is especially good in these and plays a shell-shocked Edward who comes back from the front a changed man. These are some of the best episodes of UpDown and CB gives some of the best performances of the series.
