Just William. As with Arch, I'll admit that I don't recall watching ANY of those shows mentioned. However, I have been told more than once that Circles of Deceit was very good and Dennis was very good in it. So, since it has yet to receive a vote...

I remember him. I watched the show and I'm pretty sure it was pretty good. Gabrielle Drake played his girlfriend.

...yes. As a matter of fact, he rang at precisely 9pm to let me know that "Slade are coming on to the theme from Thunderbirds!" And indeed they were. I'm sure the gig was F.A.B. I listened to a lot of Slade's 1980s-early 1990s stuff last night. They were still writing bangin' tunes - Lock Up Your Daughters - but had morphed into a kind of '80s, glam, soft/heavy rock band. Radio Wall of Sound just sounds like Def Leppard to me. Some great stuff there, but their '70s output was the best.

One of my friends is going to see 'Slade' tonight. He says he'll ring me from the gig! Can't wait! Let's be honest, it's just Dave Hill these days and three guys who no one recognises or cares about... how many hits did they play on again? It's just a tribute band. But Dave Hill was a great guitarist and is one of my friend's heroes. As he said "One out of four ain't bad!" I bet we can all predict which song they are 100% guaranteed to play!

Too Much Too Young, Gangsters, Ghost Town... brilliant songs from a better time. Not really a fan as such, but you don't get songs like that anymore. And I liked the one FB3 did with Bananarama too.

'Gay Daleks'... who'd have thought? Yes, I remember him from various TV shows from the Nineties, I think. Very sharp and funny guy.

No More Heroes was an incredible single.
I've got most of their early albums on CD. They were a band that defied categorisation.
R I P to Jet Black who, along with Dave Greenfield, composed Golden Brown... surely their most memorable and unusual hit.

It's turning out to be one of those years, isn't it...?

You may not immediately recognise the name but I’m sure that most people who post regularly on here will have a DVD or BD with Tim’s name on it - he was the man behind Network and was responsible for releasing many of the shows that we thought would never see the light of day again, and also for introducing us to new ones we’d never even heard of. Suffice to say, he played a massive part in television fandom and we might not even be on this forum without him. RIP. Shocking. One of my mates just messaged me with this news. Same age as me. I knew Tim slightly, having met him in 2016. He seemed like a nice enough guy. I wonder what will happen to Network now? I was under the impression that he was Network. Again... shocking news. RIP.

Listened to 'Down by the Jetty' last night. Great album... and in mono too. Can't have been many bands in the mid '70s purposefully putting out records in mono... and yet it works, creates a kind of wall of sound in a way that you sometimes don't get with stereo. Early Shadows and Beatles albums in mono are sometimes better than the stereo mixes. For a band like Dr. Feelgood, it was a good call.
Oil City Confidential - a brilliant documentary that I saw on BBC FOUR about ten years ago. I started to watch it, mostly out of curiosity, and was still sitting there in the chair, having not moved an inch, 90 minutes later. It's riveting. I bet they show it again soon. If so... recommended.

Mr. Christmas. A shame in a way as Slade were a decent band but all they get remembered for really is their Christmas single. I suppose on the other side of the coin it's kept them in the mainstream for life. And quite possibly kept Jim and Noddy in the money for the last 50 years. I'll guess that this song has probably made them more £££ than all the others combined. A nice little festive earner for a song that originally was about something else entirely.

Tony Rivers sang lead vocals on many of those Top of the Pops albums - and he was a fantastic and versatile singer. I suspect that most lads just bought them for the front cover rather than the 'covers' contained within! They certainly seemed to have passed into legend now and I can well imagine that they are collectible. I remember them well... the front covers anyway! Caroline Munroe was on the front of one of them. CM appeared on the front of the second of the special 'European Editions'. topofthepopslps.weebly.com/europe-editions.html Quite a lot of the cover models were well known at the time. Linda Lussardi appeared on the front cover of the final 'regular' TOTP album in 1985. The website is strangely fascinating and it's incredible what they achieved so quickly and on such a regular basis. The schedule must have been punishing. I love these quotes... Volume 45 (SHM 905) - May 1975 Comments: This album contains a legendary recording: "Autobahn". It was Kraftwerk's debut hit from their fourth album trimmed down from its original 22 minutes for hit single status. Top of the Pops had to tackle it, and Bruce Baxter took to the task, requisitioning a state-of-the-art ARP 2500 synthesiser. With Tony Rivers delivering the vocal (perilously close to The Beach Boys), Top of the Pops pull off one of their most admired and celebrated period recordings, a brilliantly executed piece of work which has won a stream of accolades, and rightly so. Volume 49 (SHM 925) - December 1975 Comments: This album features the most famous Top of the Pops cut: the legendary version of "Bohemian Rhapsody". Mojo (Issue 82, September 2000): "It took Queen almost three weeks and 180 vocal overdubs. Tony Rivers needed one night. Bruce Baxter: 'Kenny Everett spliced them together, the original and ours, played it on the radio and said, "I defy anyone to tell me which one they’re listening to".' The Pops series at its best." This recording was even released as a single in Italy! It was billed as by a group called Green Fly.

And the winner is... Arch! Yes, it was Wizzard! Mind you, I bet if I had stayed in the shop for more than five minutes I'd have heard Slade as well. Or, of course, I might have just missed them. Either way, it's November 16th, so it must be Christmas!

Just been down to the co-op. Guess what was playing over the speakers? A clue... it was one of the two songs that are the subject of this thread. So you've got a 50/50 chance of getting it right.

The first film I ever saw in the cinema was The Jungle Book. So about 1968. Then Bedknobs & Broomsticks and then Dad's Army. The first Bond film I ever saw at the cinema was Live and Let Die. The films that have scared me the most, impressed me the most and blown my mind the most, upon their release, were Jaws, CE3K, Alien, Dawn of the Dead and Star Wars. So, for me, it's got to be the 1920s!
LOL
Only joshing.
No, for me, and for the reasons stated above, it is obviously the 1970s.

I watched this last night (recorded off ITV4) and I really enjoyed it. I remember it from 1982, but don't think I'd seen it since. This is perfect Minder. Great dialogue, a situation that isn't too far fetched, brilliant rapport between Dennis and George and some great guest characters. It's a shame TV isn't like this anymore... I might watch more of it. 10/10.

I never get invited to weddings anymore. All the weddings I have ever been to have ended in divorce or death... sometimes both. And I've been Best Man twice! I think word has got around that I jinx the happy day. I still go to funerals though, as there's not much more bad luck those involved can really have.
Shaddap Ya Face by Joe Dolce seems to be the most appropriate song to have at a wedding. That or Mars the Bringer of War by Holst. Or Devil Woman by Cliff.
