A true original. So much self-sacrifice to entertain the troops during the bleakest period in history.
She kindly once signed one of my WW2 books
R.I.P Dame Vera.

Heard about this earlier today. Sad news. A national treasure. She'll forever remain in the hearts of many. Such an important part of our heritage and history. At least she saw the 75th VE Day celebrations last month. RIP Vera.

Her exemplary conduct during the War and the boost it gave to the country's morale cannot be overemphasized. Her song - "It's a lovely day tomorrow" - always brings a lump to my throat.
RIP Dear Lady

Yet I always think of that Pink Floyd song whenever she is mentioned. Just to clarify. The only reason why I didn't put a link up is because I saw this early yesterday on the British Legion Poppy site, which had no details other than the sad demise of the cherished lady. I guess this was before the national media broke the news.

Being American I first learned of her from the series The World At War. I was impressed by what she did for the troops and was inspired to read up on her. A truly classy lady. Very easy to understand why she is so highly regarded in the U.K.
Rest In Peace

When the COVID-19 'lockdown' first took hold, she gave a very thoughtful interview relating it to World War Two, in that everyone had to pull through the problem together.
Her songs were as relevant to that time, as e.g. Beatles or Abba songs were relevant to subsequent eras.
R.I.P. Dame Vera Lynn.
