A massive influence on many of the bands of my youth, not least Echo & The Bunnymen who included a great version of ‘Friction' in their covers set in 1985. Brian Eno famously (and erroneously) said that The Velvet Underground only sold 30 000 copies of their first album but everyone who bought it went out and formed a band. I would venture that Television had a similar impact with Marquee Moon.
RIP.

….and in Ch5’s 'The Best Christmas Day Telly Ever' there’s a clip from Minder On The Orient Express - which looks like it came from a bootleg NTSC conversion.

In the BBC’s 'Review 2022 - We Remember' (available on catchup now) Dennis gets a mention and there’s also a clip from 'The Smaller They Are'.

Wow - that’s a terrible shock. Obviously best known for The Specials and Fun Boy Three but I thought that the Colourfield were very underrated. Having a certain Bunnyman on bass occasionally didn’t hurt. The Specials and The Jam were very important bands for me in 1979 and their output still stands up today.

I met him briefly as well at an Elstree event - he was very enthusiastic about all aspects of film and TV. Network have already said that the plan for the next 5-10 years as envisaged by Tim is already in place so one hopes that their good work will continue.

You may not immediately recognise the name but I’m sure that most people who post regularly on here will have a DVD or BD with Tim’s name on it - he was the man behind Network and was responsible for releasing many of the shows that we thought would never see the light of day again, and also for introducing us to new ones we’d never even heard of. Suffice to say, he played a massive part in television fandom and we might not even be on this forum without him.
RIP.

A true original, a supreme talent and the original Rock ’n’ Roll hellraiser. To this day, Keith Richards has a giant picture of him in his dressing room at every Stones gig.
I remember watching this tv show when it was repeated in the mid-80s for Granada TV’s anniversary and being transfixed:
The sound is very slightly out of sync but the energy and enthusiasm is incredible and the audience lap it up.
He certainly won’t be resting in peace but he will be missed.

Terrible news. I remember him from the early days of Channel 4 and of course, The Young Ones, when he appeared as a bouncer preventing Rik from getting into his own bedroom ("What have you done? Turned it into a roller disco or something?" ) as well as a doctor examining a chocolate eclair and the aforementioned Captain Blood. Whenever I think of him, I either think of him as Fitz in Cracker or in this scene from Supergrass, when film crew attitudes to health and safety were more laissez-fare than they would be now: RIP.

Every wedding I've ever attended seems to have 'Come on Eileen' and 'Y.M.C.A' playing, the latter being the only time that many Welsh folk actually do any exercise in public. I don't mind those two though - that said, nobody knows the words to 'Come on Eileen' apart the chorus. I'll also fess up and say as a song (and not as a Neighbours anthem), I think the Angry Anderson is ok, especially as it has a great guitar solo in it. I nearly added those two as being played at every wedding (along with Karma Chameleon) but I don’t mind them so didn’t include them. I could easily have voted for Ed Sheeran but I’m proud of the fact that I couldn’t name a single one of his songs so don’t know how that one goes.

No way should Satchmo be on there - I had that as the first song at my wedding! I made sure that there were plenty of other Bond themes throughout the evening so that Mrs dB knew exactly what she was letting herself in for. I’d add Walking On Sunshine by Katrina & The Waves to the list. I hate that song with a passion and it’s been played at every wedding I’ve been to apart from mine. The DJ was told that under no circumstances, even if someone requested it, was that to be played and thankfully, it wasn’t. My hatred of the song is well known at my local gym as any time an instructor plays it in my spin class, everyone turns and looks at me to see the disgust on my face.

I caught a few minutes of this on ITV4 yesterday and the picture quality was awful - particularly the scene where Ernie releases the bird. I could hardly see what was happening on screen.

Sadly, the actor who appeared in 3 episodes of The Avengers and an episode of The New Avengers as well as The Saint, The Professionals, The Sweeney, Department S, and Doctor Who has died according to Toby Hadoke. He will probably be best known on here for his role as Everett in National Pelmet.

Very sad news that Peter Bowles has died at the age of 85 from cancer. He was in so many things that I watched growing up such as The Avengers, The Prisoner, The Persuaders!, The Saint, The Baron, The Protectors, Space:1999 to name but a few. Always thought he would have been a great guest star to have had in Minder. uk.style.yahoo.com/peter-bowles-has-died-85-111955497.html?RIP.

Ron’s grandson has confirmed on Twitter that he sadly passed away on the 8th of March. He’ll probably be best known on here for his appearances in Minder (A Nice Little Wine), The Professionals (Foxhole On The Roof) and two Sweeney episodes. He also appeared in The Avengers (twice), Randall & Hopkirk, Target, Department S, Strange Report, Only Fools And Horses, The Saint, Callan, Special Branch and UFO amongst many others. A very recognisable actor.
RIP.

I’m was absolutely gutted to hear the news this morning - I’ve been singing the praises of his podcast since it started at Christmas and hoped it would run for a very long time as the stories it contained were just hilarious. It quickly became my favourite podcast and was eagerly awaiting the next one with Gyles Brandreth so I did wonder if something might be amiss when it failed to appear on time. It would seem that Baz knew his time may be limited and the show was a way of saying farewell while preserving many of the anecdotes he had stored away in that razor sharp brain of his.
RIP to a comedy legend.

Thanks, jno - the fact he managed to live with Parkinsons for 37 years is no mean feat. What’s probably not well known is that a small group of Liverpool fans kept on fundraising for him doing charity walks to all 92 league grounds and the like.

He was my Dad’s favourite player from the 70s. He was hugely underrated but was the first name on the team sheet for Bob Paisley. I was fortunate to see him many times and he had an incredible knack of anticipating where and when an attack might develop.
RIP Ray - one of the very best to wear the red shirt.
