Very sad... occasionally I do feel it when a celeb I only met from afar dies. Grew up and old with Dennis - as many of us did.
THANK YOU MR W! <3

Absolutely gutted too - the last time I felt this way about someone I've never met was back on 5th August 2015.
Very sad news indeed, for me it feels as though the last of the iconic actors from the series I've loved since I was very young has passed, the end of an era.

Extremely saddened to read this, but what a legacy of work to leave behind you. According to the Telegraph website, "Mr Waterman was best known for his role as ‘Gerry Standing’ in twelve series of the BBC’s hugely successful New Tricks". Condolences to his family and friends.
Just to add, sometimes the passing of a famous person hits you harder than others, and this is one of those times. I'm not sure Dennis ever really got the respect he deserved for his acting; brilliant in the Sweeney, magnificent in Minder.

A hero has left us.
Inspired so many to join the police as Carter.
Gutted, so few Minder actors left with us now - Dennis was superb in pretty much everything he appeared in.
R.I.P. Our Dennis

I have no words. I always hoped to meet him one day, that's another dream gone. Sleep well and thank you.
This grown-up lark isn't all it's cracked up to be sometimes.

Just been told that Dennis has died, I am shocked , now at the great Winchester bar with George and Glynn. Obviously everyone on the forum knows the body of work he has left behind starting as only a child actor. RIP

Really saddened to hear this. Minder and The Sweeney are 2 of my favourite programmes ever and Dennis made the characters seem so real. RIP , condolences to those close and thanks for the great entertainment.

I was watching "Snowball" (1960) only the other day on Talking Pictures TV - that was one of the first things he starred in, according to IMDB.
I'll remember him for The Sweeney, Minder, Stay Lucky and New Tricks.

Sad and shocked to hear about this.
Just seen it on the BBC website.
He will be most fondly remembered by me - and by many others I’m sure - for The Sweeney and Minder, but he appeared in so many other things too. Great actor, possibly a little underrated.
RIP Dennis.
