One of Arthurs funniest moments when he says in all innocence..
"..I had a sixty-nine the other night!"
Always makes me laugh..

Arthur is still quite daring at this point in Minder, purposely tipping the youth's (Jesse Birdsall) pint over him in the Winchester!
....don't think he would have been quite so daring if Terry wasn't with him though
It's great to see Arthur in this kind of mood, I particularly like the scene in 'The Beer Hunter' when he challenges the newly married Groom to a punch-up in the street .

I quite like this episode but there are a few cheesy moments. As mentioned, the chat show and training workout are a little iffy, as are the scenes in the gym whilst Willie is sparring. I'm sure there are a few Barney Mathers' on the boxing scene, his character is a good depiction but the bearded associate with the dark glasses that Mather is trying to impress is laughable and the dolly birds turn it into farce imo.

I thought the heavy, and another looked like the guy who played Ray Daley's father. Yes it was. Amazing how a few years and a stutter can change someone!

The Two Ronnies for me. I found them funny as a double act and individually. M & W were good because of Eric imo, he was a natural comedian but Ernie let the side down for me.

There's a bit of dialogue in this one which I'm surprised escapes the editing knife on recent ITV4 showings. On hearing of Terrys concerns about the possibility of Jim making a pass at him, Arthur says, "Well, if he tries any of that stuff with you, tell him you're sorry but you're normal..." 'Normal'. I thought the PC brigade would be straight on to this like a shot.

'Aces high' was a lot grittier than 'You Win some, You Lose Some' and I found it a little strange to see Maurice jump from a very seedy private drinking den to a rather upmarket casino. I agree, I also think it would have been good to see the character a few more times, in between the these two episodes, so that we could see the transition from small time poker player to casino punter.

One of the Greek card players was in the Profs episode Blind run, I think.
Yes, the card player 'Chris', was in that episode. He played the 'fake Sheik'. Also had a regular role in 'Mind Your Language' if memory serves.

Just watched it. Again brilliant. 10/10. Wetting myself at the end scene with the grapes!!! Ad lib? 100%!!
A lot of ad-libbing went on between Arthur and Terry and luckily the cameras were kept running to capture it and put it out in the final productions. Some quality material which some directors may have dismissed.

At a particular quiet time at sea, the Rear Admiral of HMS Illustrious decided on some surprise manoeuvres at an early start. By all accounts, Andrew was livid to be woken up at 05.30hrs and demanded a meeting with the Rear Admiral. He went on record to remind the Rear Admiral, "In case you have forgotten, this IS my mother's Navy!" The Rear Admiral meekly cancelled further surprise manoeuvres, another words, was DESPERATE to keep his pension. For those unfamiliar with Officer rank, it's the equivalent of a beat bobby calling the shots to a police chief inspector
Priceless
Only thing I may contest is the quote ..."this is my Mothers Navy!"
Andy-Pandy would probably have said..."this is Mummsies Navy!"
He probably resented an early start as he'd been up late the night before, helping his girlfriend with her homework...

Got to be Hewitt hasn't it but lets be honest, it would be just as well to hold a raffle as a dna test. Charlie boy was slated by a large number of the public for carrying on with Camilla but Diana was no angel when it came to upholding the marital vows.

I've got experience of both Travelodge and Premier and would opt for Premier every time. I realise they are both economical accommodation but Travelodge really is as basic as you can get if you ask me.
Re- B&B's, I've stayed in a few and as Arch says they're a far more personal, friendly option. Also with a B&B you're pretty much assured a quality homecooked breakfast.

Probably my favourite episode! " Where to Guv? " " Er, the Winchester Club please " " Where? "
Arthur boldly asks for The Winchester Club, like 'everyone' should know where and what it is. And when they get into the Winchester he prompts Dave into giving "the good stuff" when brandy is ordered and asks to be called Mr Daley "just for today."
Arthur was trying to impress Matthews no doubt but I also think he, once again, was trying to portray himself a couple of social classes up the ladder.

Out of idle curiosity, given the number of scrips which have come to light, did we ever get to the bottom of what Arthur's pre-dubbed explanation of "PHATI"?
Personal Health And Treatment Indemnity wasn't it?

There's a Christmas Special, 'An Officer and a Carsalesman' and another special which is basically a montage of clips from all the series, 'The Early Years'. In the second 'special', Terry, Arthur and Dave are in the Winchester reminiscing and the different scenes appear as flashbacks.

A lovely, funny little scene is when Terry is going through his pre-fight medical and the Doctor takes his blood pressure. Arthur butts in and says "Ere! Can I have mine done?" Whilst rolling up his shirt sleeve he gives Terry a triumphant, bullish smile and says "...I bet mine's higher than yours!"

I think Terry enjoyed his time with Peter a lot more than he thought he would. I don't think he ever imagined himself as, or ever wanted to be, a father, preferring the lifestyle already had. Being forced into becoming Peter's temporary guardian brought out another side of Terry that he probably never knew existed and possibly left him wanting something he was previously never interested in.

Would anyone know if the nurse that appeared when Terry was getting treated for ths shoulder injury, was Janet Ellis
I don't know if it is Janet Ellis but she was appearing in small roles at this time. She had a small role in a Sweeney episode.

But its not much of a title is it? There are lots of potential lines used in the episode which would ahve made a better title. The Fulham Connection to mention one.
Very good suggestion. Appropriate to the episode and also, obviously, a play on the title of the excellent 'The French Connection' ,inkeeping with the episode title trend.

Ken Campbell is excellent in this episode. Living in a derelict house, eating HP sauce sandwiches and wearing his pyjamas under his blazer whilst watching porno movies as a pastime. The dirty cottonwool stuffed into his ear and his nasal sounding voice are good attention to detail too.

Excellent notes on an excellent episode AW. I've always thought the punch up in Dermots garage is one of the best in the series. Terry shows himself to be physically hard as well as a good fighter when he takes on and beats the three of them. Wendys flat is a wonderful location too, a wealthy, black market Boookies pad could easily have been a big, luxurious detatched house in the suburbs but that just wouldn't have worked or suited the episode in my opinion. 5/5 from me too.

Almost as cringeworthy as William Shatners version of 'Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds'
