Not sure if it's been mentioned previously but the guy who plays the printer in this episode (referred to as Capston) also played the disgruntled customer in 'The Last Video Show'. He's the one ranting about being charged for a latw return whilst his mother's in hospital etc...

One of my favourite episodes. Its all very far fetched as befits a Christmas episode but great fun, especially as it reunites so many actors who appeared as guest stars in the series. One thing always intrigued me though. Why does the glamorous Honor Blackman make a bee line for Arthur immediately she sees him (before she could have any suspicion that he is involved with the daughter of Jack South)? I know it was Christmas but were we supposed to believe she fancied him??? She knew someone on the train was involved so just covering all bases early on maybe?

On viewing this evening i picked up on something new. In the final scenes at the Winchester where Arthur is drunkenly telling everyone how he dealt with Stanton etc. Arthur says,
'I'd just like to say these few words...'
Terry replies,
'The drinks are on me.' and Arthur repeats them.
One of the Winchester customers in this scene is well known and recognised Minder/Sweeney/Professionals et al extra Eric Kent. After Arthur declares that the drinks are on him, Terry looks in Kents direction and says, 'What you having Eric? large Bacardi and Coke?'
Scripted or ad-libbed?

I think I've found an interesting double-take for this episode. I'm sure this lady at the mirror is the same person coming out of the shop in 'Diamonds Are a Girls Worst Enemy'. What do you think? Certainly looks like the same lady/extra - good spot Tolls.

The Mini switcheroo is great in this one, It is a nice little scene but having watched the episode today it dawned on me, what's the point? There's no need of the two Minis. Stubbs getting out of one and then into the other, the only switch that was needed was the Mini pulling over for Stubbs to exchange places with his 'decoy' and then make his way to the loot in Terrys Capri, Arthurs Daimler or any other vehicle.

Appeared in plenty of other things but Dads Army was IL's heyday for me. In a documentary about the making of Dads Army, Lavender said how Arthur Lowe took a bit of a shine to him and gave hm the advice,
'Find something eyecatching to wear and stay close to me' - hence the scarf which Pike adorned and the 'stupid boy' references. Lowe referred to Ian offset as 'Lavender Blue'.
The last of a great cast, RIP.

When Ray and Arthur follow Merv into the Bingo hall the camera focuses on a lady sat at a table and I'm sure she's the extra or actress that played Mrs McKluskeys secretary in Grange Hill.

He looked older then 39 which is surprising Many actors seemed to look older than their years in the 70s, John Thaw was in his early 30s when filming started for The Sweeney but looked easily ten years older imo.

Does anyone have any information on how Anthony Heaton died? I could try to access his death records but it will cost me. He died at only 39. Don't know but his imdb page puts his last TV appearance at 1983, 4 years before he passed away so only guessing that he may have been taken ill around that time.

Hello folks, just watching this. One of the better episodes with Arthur smoking rubber particularly good. Has anyone noticed the photos in the Winchester when Terry and Arthur fill the place up with steam ? The look very like the three "intro" photos with Terry as a boxer. I wonder they were part of a job lot taken for the intro at the start of season one and got hung on the wall...... Have a look 27 min 20 secs in after Tel has the cup of rosie lee with Dot Cotton. The one on the right looks like it could be Tel vs Wilson, 'Rocky Eight and a half'. Good spot das

Dai is fantastic . I cracked up when Terry keeps telling him to lay off the Gargle ( A term I am not familiar with) A 5 star episode for me. I agree, Dai is a wonderful character portrayed perfectly by Kenneth Griffith. Drunk and subservient one minute, aggressive the next, then nervous and afraid. Too much gargle (alcohol) played its part.

The goons after Dermott in the garage would have been Wendy's men That's a really interesting point. I'd always assumed that the two guys just happened to be mates of Dermotts who turned up to find Terry putting on the pressure and stepped in to help their mate. If they were sent by Wendy why would they have got involved with Terry?

Just caught the last 15 minutes of the episode this morning, and was wondering the actor who played the syrup have seen him in just one other thing ,and in this he had a bit of a strange accent in this was he supposed to be Australian? He played Bertie Woosters' replacement Butler in an episode of Jeeves and Wooster when Jeeves decided to move on. I also remember him in TV advertisements for bottled milk being delivered daily by the traditional Milkman in the 80s.

Just spotted another minor continuation blooper on this one. In the scene where Scotch Harry hides behind the dustbins and gets the discarded food thrown on him, if you watch the blue crate it’s clean. In the next shot it’s covered in cabbage leaves. Good spot. A practice 'take' had taken place perhaps?

I haven't watched this for years but I remember thinking Faith and his sidekick had been hired by somebody to get the details of the bank account from Nikki. If he was working for someone professionally that would explain his offer of a handshake to Terry imo as it was just another job, not personal. Chase and Hart were hired by Nikki's stepmother, in one of the scenes you see her sitting in the car with them. But it's not at all clear which suggests there may potentially be some deleted scenes somewhere. How all these accomplices and family members knew Nikki had an envelope with Jack South's legacy and was travelling on that exact train to empty his Swiss bank account is also a mystery. Guess Nikki must have put an advert in the 'Villains Gazette' I like the thought that the idea came from Diana Dors' allegedly missing millions with a code to crack - see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diana_Dors#Alleged_fortune. Like Jack South's, it is extremely unlikely ever to be realised. Well I never realised any of that, further research obviously needed. Great stuff coyote

Did Charlie Chisholm ever actually solve a crime?? 'Poetic Justice 'innit?', he got Smith nicked for dishonestly handling but can't think of any others at the minute. Oh, he got Terry a 'suspended' for shoplifting even though he didn't do it!

Had a lot of struggles with addiction, talented comedy actor. Helped a lot of others in their addiction battles, but couldn't save himself. Sad he couldn't enjoy his good fortune. RIP Matthew. TalkTV replayed an interview today that Matt Perry did with Peter Hitchens from around 10 years ago and it was interesting and poignant. MP realised his addictions and explained that there were medical reasons behind them which Hitchens wasn't completely sympathetic to. Both sides displayed valid points and i think more research and understanding is needed from both sides of the fence. RIP Matt Perry.

Heard this on Sky Football this afternoon. Sir Bobby was certainly a legend, a football man through and through. If someone who has absolutely no interest in football whatsoever and couldn't tell you the first thing about the game heard the name Bobby Charlton, even they would say, 'Wasn't he a footballer?'
RIP.

I would have to go for one of those curly cheese and tomato sandwiches. You know the ones; they would sit under a see-through plastic dome for a week. Often seen in the Sweeney, or in a British Rail buffet car (remember them!) I know the ones you're talking about billy, the bread almost crunches like toast when you bite into it and the cheese has gone salty - awesome.

I went for Pork Scratchings because they seem to go well with Cider, Pork and Apple.
In my younger days myself and some mates used to spend Sunday lunchtimes at a local pub, The Angarrack, where there was always bowls of roast potatoes, pickled onions, nuts and cheese on the bar which was well appreciated. After a Saturday night on the lash the bar food was good for the hangover along with a few pints of Guinness and Lucozade.

Then turning up at Terrys flat because er indoors locked him out. ...which is especially funny as it comes directly after Share-on asking, "You wont get in trouble at home?" to which Arthur confidently replies, "I know how to handle everything."

I don’t recognize her from anything else. Thanks swainy, I'm not positive I've seen her in anything else either..but still... Any other takers? She looks familiar for some reason. Can't think where I've seen her before but I'm sure I have. I'm wondering if it was an episode of 'Public eye' or 'The Main Chance' - something like that perhaps.

Great scene between June Whitfield and GC, two absolute legends. Arthur's like a rabbit caught in headlights - scared stiff of JW's advances as he was in 'Dreamhouse' when Wanda Ventham made her intentions known.

Regarding the scene in the bank where Arthur reads the leaflet ''we are open even when we are closed'', check out Deryck Guyler on YT and there's an ad featuring Eric Sykes trying to sell him an old Ford Popular and they go round to Barclaybank whose slogan is guess what; ''we are open even when we are closed''. I'm assuming this is the advent of the 'hole in the wall' cash machine?
