I remember in this episode Terry says his mother is long since dead. I could be wrong but I think there is another episode that contradicts this...I can't remember which one though. Can anyone help? Better late than never...you was right, Pete...see below. You are right, Terry tells someone that his mum thinks that he is a chauffeur. Indeed, swainy sir.. It was in The Bengal Tiger, in series 1, which I just happened to resee tonight. I had a feeling someones would note this error. And yet, The Bengal Tiger was written by Leon Griffiths. jno....anyone..any idea about this rare continuity error? There were a few comments made in certain episodes which could be linked to a previous storyline but generally they all stood alone with no continuity so i guess LG was writing each episode independently. Well spotted on the connection though denz, good stuff.

Watched this again tonight. The parts with Terry’s Gran were even more amusing than I remembered. Terrys Gran is a very good addition to the episode and allowed some funny dialogue between Arthur and Terry. Her extremely sparse house which hadn't seen any modernising for many years was way out of date for the era and to have her watching Open University was a nice touch. My own Gran would sit for hours watching snooker on TV and would openly admit that she didn't have a clue of the rules, the scoring or the object of the game, she just enjoyed watching the shots and the balls going into the pockets.

'If You could Read My mind' was one of the regular tracks used by Dom Jolly in 'Trigger Happy TV'. I hadn't heard it before that point and it soon became a favourite of mine, sounded so flowing and natural RIP GL.

Heard about this earlier this afternoon. His show was pretty much the first of its kind wasn't it and spawned many copies. I remember holidaying in Florida circa '94/5 with forum member Chopper and two other mates and seeing the Jerry Springer show on US television, it was something completely new to us and we were fixated. Subjects such as, 'I'm your husband but I've also been having sex with your brother for the past 6 months' were quite groundbreaking to us at the time!
RIP Jerry, thank you for the entertainment.

When Arthur first arrives at Mukarjee's shop, Mukarjee is sweeping broken glass into the curb side and there's wood nailed across the doors giving the impression that the glass doors had been smashed but after countless viewings of this episode, today for the first time i noticed reflections in the glass doors so the glass was obviously still in place.

There’s not much I moan about in regards to Minder but it would have been great if more of the characters would have made more appearances or at least be mentioned more. I agree. Even though Minder was a series of separate stories, i think it would have been good to have a few lines of continuity. Characters appearing more than once or at least being referred to in subsequent episodes as well as specific events being talked about from previous episodes would have been a nice touch imo.

Very good review geoff but I would disagree with your final point. I've always considered the slow motion ending together with the music was a view of Terry remembering the time he had spent with Peter, how he'd enjoyed having him around and possibly thinking about how different the past 10 or 12 years could have been. Terry mentioned to Beryl that he'd like to keep in touch and maybe take Peter out every now and then. I wonder if it could have worked having Peter as another semi-regular character?

Are cover versions allowed - 'Damn Dog' by the Manics ...and what about songs that have dogs barking in them like 'Been Caught stealing' by 'Janes Addiction'? What a track that is. Anyway, i voted 'Snoopy vs The Red Baron'.

Hope no one minds but thought I could sneak this one in and post your thoughts on it. (if not then I can remove it) I quite like it. Micky P Kerr - That's Entertainment 2020 Very good. I think their early stuff has a great sound as a three piece but the addition of the brass and added backing vocals make this track what it is

The decoy car is a bit of a mystery: Did Terry tell Arthur when Rose was having a shower to get 2 green Minis from the car lot with identical plates Yeah think it must have been Terrys idea but it would have been good to hear him explain to Arthur at least something of his plan. Even if it along the lines of, "We'll need two identical motors and a covered lorry to carry one of them in - don't asked questions Arthur just do as i say and meet me at...".

The tune Don't Let Go played on the radio when Henson's character is waiting for the answer to the music question is composed by Frank McDonald & Chris Rae but anyone know the Artist? or is it Chris a female doing the vocals? EDIT.Just found out the answer it's this one from the film Creepshow and Vocals by Gillian Gerardo. Trivia. Also this tune is heard in the very trash soft p0rn film Emanuelle in Soho. Also used in 'A Lot of Bull and a Pat on the Back'.

I may have missed it but were Billy Gilpin's injuries ever explained - was it a scrap with Lord Ingrave ? Really good review and observations again geoff. Re - Billys injuries, yes I've always assume they were a result of a fight with Lord Ingrave of which Billy had the upper hand resulting in lord Ingrave being in critical condition in hospital. But as you say, i don't think it's ever explained.

He also played a great role in an episode of 'Prospects' - 'Frying Tonight'.
He played George, the owner of a fish & chip shop who slowly lost the plot as he discovered his wife had been having a long term affair and he turned to the bottle.

Splendid episode. Somehow a video rental shop seems very Daley, particularly as he's pirating copies back at base. Yeah, I see that too, Alan..and agree with your other points too, I guess. Fine episode, for sure. Yep, all cash transactions and you just know Arthur's getting his stock of videos somewhere dodgy so i agree, a video hire shop is right up Arthur' street.

Some very good points and observations geoff.
Regarding Sharons 'off' singing taking some skill to portray convincingly, I'm sure i heard somewhere in the dim and distant past about Les Dawsons piano playing which i used to find very funny btw, taking the same kind of talent. I don't think it's that easy, as you mention, to do it convincingly.

Also a comment on her husbands character " Some people say he was too honest for his own good - Not me though" . This struck me as odd - almost as if Arthur was correcting Jo's misconception that her husband was straight up and he was rascal all along. Did I hear this right ? Yeah I've never worked this one out either. Going by Arthurs manner and facial expression he's obviously paying a compliment but I can't really figure out how, unless he means Jo's late husband was a well respected member of the 'alternative economy' who made a good living ducking and diving whilst outwardly appearing to be on the straight and narrow.

A bit of a change of tone from the first 3 episodes - less obvious humour and a much darker theme with hints of serious violence. In some respects this works better than a script full of gags and one -liners , the contrast sharpens the humour and vice versa . Kenneth Griffith as Dai Llewellyn certainly steals the show as a drink sodden gentleman's gentleman. I do like the bit were Bassam Sayin reels of a list of tasks for Dai - fetching the suitcase from the car , running a bath with no herbal fragrances , lunch of a clear soup and a hard biscuit , set up the office in the front room , lay out the grey whistle, white dickie and red peckham ..... You expect the fine and dandy's to have taken their toll , but no - he remembers word for word ! Arthur admiring the Cannelloni on the wall , his daft scheme of trying to bump into Sayin as he arrives at Heathrow. Doubling down on this by introducing Frankie as light entertainment .This is epitomy of Arthur - conceiving an ill thought through nice little earner but seeing it kiboshed by his own incompetence and misreading of the situation. We learn a bit more about Terry's character - fundamentally he does the right thing the right way even if this is to his disadvantage. He doesn't leg it after the hit but spirits Dai and Sayin away to a safe house (pub) eluding the kidnappers/assassins . And rather drive straight to nick at the end - takes Sayin to the airport saving him from trouble with his fake passport. Also I got the impression Arthur whilst driving the van was trying to think of a way to alert Terry - called him Terrence for example. So there is a spark of decency underneath all that skulduggery. The good guys win out in the end as in the best Hollywood feelgood endings. A solid 4/5 Very good review geoff, some great points and observations.

Watched this for the fourth time tonight. A highly enjoyable and entertaining fifty minutes. A cracking episode. In my early days of watching Minder i only rated this one as ok but the more i watched it, the more i appreciated the content. A very good, solid episode with some stand out Minder moments.

Very sad news. I think he'll mainly be remembered for 'The Specials' and as much as I liked their music i'd have to say my favourite track with TH as lead is 'Tunnel of Love' by Fun Boy Three.
Taken way too soon, RIP.

As I said before, the actual plot, An old mate of Arthur's trying, who has lost his trousers and gone AWOL is more like a series ten ray Daley episode, but the acting by GC and DW make it work... I've always enjoyed this episode. Terry trying to sort out the confusion about the hotel porter, and the rugby game are very well observed. Agreed ....and all centred around a very hungover Arthur . Arthur giving orders from his bed whilst 'er indoors does the hoovering and then struggling to watch Terry eat his sandwich in the Winch' are points worth mentioning too as is the football hitting Arthurs car window and the ensuing banter. I'm with jj on this, i think there's a lot to like in this one.

Arthur wanting to have a punch up with the groom and grabbing the rugby ball during the match is very out of character. Out of character yes i agree but i think it's a good departure from the usual Arthur and a good comical touch. Other examples can be seen in 'In' when Arthur gets tough with Ferret in the Police cell, "Don't mess with me Ferret! Oh sorry Billy!" and 'Sorry Pal Wrong Number' when Rat and co are playing up - "I'll 'ave him!"

I reckon Terry waited in his car to
1, stop any imminent aggro happening around Peter and 2, he felt he had a better chance in the open rather than the confines of his flat which could sustain a lot of damage in the melee.
Giving away the upper ground is a good point, maybe Terry thought his opponent would walk down the steps and face-off from there? He possibly didn't realise he was up against a loose cannon.

Worked in a pub in West London in the mid 80s. Schweppes tonic for the VAT's (Athur's tipple) and Gin an' tonics, meant they were going a bomb at the time. Was too young to drink in the eighties but watching minder now I always wondered what people thought of Arthur’s choice of tipple as growing up all the men around MeV were strictly pint drinkers and vodka was only drank by the ladies, personally I don’t mind vodka now and then. I think businessmen etc. would have viewed drinking shorts more Gentlemanlike than quaffing a pint of beer even though I'm sure they'd loved to have had one on occasion. I think certain folk saw it as an etiquette thing.

I noticed Terry has an ashtray from a pub on his coffee table, yet he doesn't smoke. I know times were different back then and non smokers would have an ashtray for visitors who smoked ,but Terry seemed anti smoking and would say to Arthur "you're not smoking that in here!" Referring to his cigars I've known a couple of non smokers who always carried a good quality lighter so they coud light other peoples cigarettes for them. Sometimes it was done to impress business associates/potential clients etc. and on other occasions, as jj implies, it was for the birds.

At the end of the episode in The Winchester, Terry says he'll have a Bloody Mary, pats his stomach and says 'better make it slimline tonic though' - what sort of Bloody Mary is that?
