Great Bond and also wonderful in the Untouchables. R.I.P. Sean I know his character suffered a sad ending but until that point in the film, Connery played a proper old school, hard, no nonsense Cop who refused to be intimidated by enemies or superiors alike. Good stuff. And I think it was the first time any of his characters has been killed on screen. Excellent film IMHO.

Great Bond and also wonderful in the Untouchables. Strong supporter of Scotland, passed away in the Bahamas.
Ironically, I saw him yesterday in the film 'Hell Drivers'.

My brother, a Mod in the sixties, once told me SDG were one of the first non-Mod bands the Mods latched onto. With Spencer Davis's prominent guitar style and Winwood's soulful voice, you could understand why...
R.I.P. Spencer Davis.

I've changed my mind on this one. It's worth watching just to see Arthur's paranoia. Good hoot.

Watched this episode the other day, and don't know what to make of it. Can understand the logic of moving production to Oz for cost and other reasons. IMHO it would be more plausible if Arthur went to Oz to seek his inheritance and left Ray to run his lock-up, with perhaps a few updates by phone from Arthur. They could've redressed a UK location to mimic Australia. The show was extremely popular down under and was part funded by ABC in Australia. Indeed. The Oz episodes wasn't Minder to me. It was more of Arthur and Ray on a jolly down under. They literally could make a mini-series of them in Oz, which would make more sense IMHO.

This is IMHO one of the better Ray Daley episodes. Love the scene when Arfur is stuffed full of dodgy coins and staggers across to the machine. Priceless.

Just heard the news. So sad. Been watching repeats on ITV4 of The Avengers. Talented, beautiful and always came across as a really good person.
Genuinely gutted.

Didn't realise there was a best of detectives on ITV when I first suggested this. Still think most people missed a trick by ignoring Foyle's War. IMHO it's a great series, and authentic as one can achieve with budgets available to produce a series that lasted over a decade. Always gripping, and with Milner as his sidekick and Sam Stewart as his strange driver - great combination.

Appeared in an epsiode of the Professionals, though cannot remember off the top of my head which one, but sure he played a CI5 operative, who helped Doyle find someone. Chariots of Fire is one of my favourite films and remember him well from it. RIP Ben The Pros episode was 'Blackout'.

I voted for Christopher Foyle. he's so enigmatic and almost emotionless.
Also went with Sherlock Holmes. He's been played by so many actors... and well.
My third choice was "other". Don't think you can dismiss Clouseau.
Also thought about Officer Crabtree from Allo Allo. So ludicrously un-PC, it's worth mentioning just because the character was an idiot.

Inspector Clouseau anyone? ABSOLUTE GENIUS from Peter Sellers. End of debate in my opinion. Great call. So so funny.

This episode makes me curl up with laughter. The plot is so-so but the frustration with Chisholm is priceless. Add in the Roger Moore syrup and a cameo from Robbie Coltrane and IMO it's a recipe for blinding TV.
"There are more important things in life than nicking Daley. At the moment I can't think of one. He is a thorn in my side, a tickle in the throat..."
Wicked.

I'm struggling to think of a follow-up that's as good or better than the original. Think Paul Hogan said something on those lines when he made Crocodile Dundee II. I'm paraphrasing, but went on the lines of: "To make a second film after the initial success of the original, it needs to be twice as good to match the first". There’s loads of films where the sequel is better in my opinion but it’s all subjective. Tiz very subjective. Bear in mind, though, that I'm not a traditional film buff, so my views are based on films I've seen, albeit relatively limited by comparison.

Bought this off ebay. Just arrived. Only cost £17.99, which is nothing compared to what some of them have been going for lately. Sounds good and takes me back to the good old days. Or rather... back to the future! very retro looking. My kinda thing. What does sound good are old radiograms. We used to have a GEC as a youngster, and the bass weight for a mono version was impressive.

Watched this episode the other day on ITV4. Just love the way George Sewell was laughing at Terry and Arthur's dialogue. Not sure if that was scripted or not. Either way it looked like he was having fun in this episode.

Likewise. The face is very familiar but the name. R.I.P. John Benfield. No kidding! I remember this guy. There was a period in Uk telly from the mid-80's through to the mid-90's when the tv companies seemed to take less and less chances with casting and instead relied on trusted faces. Enter John Benfield, who seemed to play the lead copper in just about every detective show on the air around that time. I mean, I'm sure he didn't play every role but for awhile it sure as hell seemed like it. You literally couldn't turn on the tv in the evenings without seeing him playing yet another copper in something. It got kind of silly after awhile, it was like 'Aren't there any other actors who can play cops other than this guy?' :-) But he was a good actor and proved it when he got roles that stretched him a bit. Anyway, RIP. You have to bear in mind, Robb, I've never been a huge TV watcher. there are certain programmes I like to watch and others...

Going back to the original subject. Yes, vinyl is still my 'go to' format, however, CDs and streaming has its merits, as does radio. My current system I have vinyl, CD player, FM tuner and Freeview tuner via the TV. They all produce very good quality sound playback... They all have their pros and cons, and it boils down to the recording. I have some remastered CDs that sound great, while others are over compressed and sound mechanical. Likewise with vinyl. From my collection the best SQ is from the 1970s, while some of the more recent remastered vinyl sounds way off piste. Whilst listening to my album collection recently, the majority on CD, the quality of the recording on some of the CDs is real hit and miss. Some albums have to be played and near full volume to be heard as the sound quality is so poor, whilst others sound superb. Even replacing some CDs with remastered ones, the sound quality doesn't always improve much.
I think some early CDs was just some guy recording them off MW radio the quality is so poor.
Agreed. Ultimately, though, regardless of the recording the music is the most important IMO.

Couldn't vote - where's the cassette option? A design classic. Good quality cassette decks are very good. Problem came with the music cassette itself. If my parents couldn't find me they used to follow the tangled celluloid around the house . Brands such as Nakamichi, Yamaha, Hitachi, Sony... all produced top notch decks for their respective price bracket(s).

Quick on here aren't they. Just seen it on social media with link. Dame Vera Lynn: Forces' Sweetheart dies aged 103 - BBC News www.BBC.com/news/uk-53091856Legend. National treasure. Yet I always think of that Pink Floyd song whenever she is mentioned. Just to clarify. The only reason why I didn't put a link up is because I saw this early yesterday on the British Legion Poppy site, which had no details other than the sad demise of the cherished lady. I guess this was before the national media broke the news.
