Another constant face on our TV screens when growing up, who was still making shows up until not too long ago.
I never realised he was 88, must have taken pretty good care of himself as he didn't look that old the last time I saw him, which was a few years ago now.
RIP Des

Another sad loss as we say farewell to a Variety stalwart - booked as "new style comic" on Buddy Holly's British tour back in the day, worked the same unforgiving circuit as M&W (among others), great laid back chatshow host who always secured some fantastic acts Take a look on YT at him and Jack "wehey!" Douglas performing their double act (very good). Thanks for the entertainment Des đź‘Ť
RIP Sir

Was only looking up 1960s Number 1s the other night, now I'm developing a bit of a Top of the Pops obsession, and he appeared as late as July 1968 with a number 1 for one week called 'I pretend'.
He was regularly on during the day with Melanie Sykes during the 2000s and was also on Countdown around 2008.

Another familiar face leaves us - along with the likes of Monkhouse, Wogan and Parky he was a regular on our TV screens when I was growing up. A consummate professional who wasn’t afraid to allow others to send him up. He knew that ultimately he was going to benefit from it.
RIP.
