He also appeared in shows like Danger Man, Callan and the film Innocent Bystanders, but I'll always remember him as Alf Garnett.

Smarties every time for me. M&M's contain nuts which I'm allergic to. When I worked at Asda a few years ago, I used to get tubes of Smarties out of the vending machine in the cantine during my breaks.

Dirty Harry and Magnum Force were the best movies IMHO. Like The Sweeney, Dirty Harry belonged in the '70s. Sudden Impact was more like an arthouse version of Death Wish 3 because you had a vengeful vigilante teaming up with a tough cop. It did have some glorious moments though such as "Go ahead, make my day!" which Ronald Reagan famously mimicked. The Dead Pool could have been just any action flick rather than a DH film. With it being made in the late '80s, it could have featured either Mel Gibson, Bruce Willis or Sly Stallone.
As for best shootouts, I like the one on the rooftops with Scorpio in DH, the final one at the quarry in DH, the raid on the gangsters and the supermarket gun battle in MF, the bank job one in The Enforcer, when he kills those mob hitmen in SI and the restaurant one in TDP.

Great actor and was a real familiar face on-screen. RIP Colin.

I also liked him in Nomads. A very strange film, but he gave a very terrified and neurotic turn as an archaeologist.

Interesting to mention Peter Sellers as Bond. I always thought Stanley Baker would have been interesting. He had a tough, hard-boiled, working class quality to him like Sean Connery even though Bond was more upper middle class. If Baker had been 007, I reckon the films would have stuck more closely to the novels but he probably would have given up after maybe 2 or 3 films. Worth noting that he starred in his own spy film Innocent Bystanders written by James Mitchell (Callan).

Well said, Gary. It wasn't so long ago that her husband Bobby had passed away.

You've got everything right off your chest there, ace5150. Personally, I wasn't a right big fan of hers but she was a TV superstar for the best part of the '80s and early '90s. She knew how to grab your attention, but at least she was no Jimmy Saville...

I remember the weekends back in the '80s when my mum and my sister would watch Blind Date and Surprise Surprise. My brother told me about the time Cilla cracked a joke about Liverpool being better than Man Utd when Alex Ferguson made a guest appearance.

Worth pointing out there would have been no Indy without Bond. Ian Fleming's creation was what inspired George Lucas and Steven Spielberg to come up with Raiders Of The Lost Ark as well as their love for Saturday morning adventure serials.

Batman edges it for me. A far darker, more human and tormented superhero who doesn't have any powers at all to speak of. Superman was great but someone told me he was better portrayed in the comics from the mid to late '80s.

A shame. I will never forget him as the sleazy landlord in Up The Junction and the dodgy foreign gambler in the Sweeney episode Stoppo Driver.

I think this is my favourite episode from series 1. Quite tense yet also funny at the same time and the action at the end is enjoyable.

He also appeared in Vega$ as a playboy villain and starred as the initially well-intentioned but ultimately sinister Count Iblis in the original Battlestar Galactica. But he will always be Steed to so many people of all generations.

Christopher Lee was one of the best villain actors ever. Dracula, Lord Summerisle and Scaramanga. I liked seeing Ron Moody pop up in a Starsky & Hutch episode from series 2 (Murder At Sea).

One of my favourite episodes. This, The Old School Tie and You Need Hands had a bit more of a Sweeneyish feel because of the villains Tel came up against.

This episode is a shining example of how clever and witty this show was. Gareth Hunt made for a suitably sleazy antagonist.
