Great actor, a bit ‘one dimensional’ - as a stern type of person. I never realised he was as old as that!...

I think as long as the involves consenting adults his sexual preferences shouldn't be an issue, and it's a shame their exposure wrecked his career. For me the really distasteful part is the NOTW affecting to take the moral high ground given all the downright evil strokes they pulled over the years. As Portland Road says there were probably people who did a lot worse but with a blind eye turned so they could carry on their merry way. Agreed. Exactly, agree with both of you & my Dad said the same at the weekend. Hardly Jimmy Saville, who went unpunished until he was no longer with us...

Totally agree, series 7 was brilliant. But that Capri didn’t last long after this filming then, and didn’t look in bad shape. 7 characters from this episode we’re in previous episodes! I can think of a few of them, but not all, and I think I have watched this episode more than any other!...

I think this is a fine, if unintentional, end to the Terry years: Arthur gets a result, Terry gets a grand, and the end with the ventriloquism singing is brilliant. (I reckon GC and DW ad-libbed it.) True, we don't see Terry finally leave, but that might have been too serious and 'heavy' for some of us to handle. Instead, we can just reflect on such happy memories as that final scene. Definitely, I watched these episodes, within a couple of months from turning 18, working / serving my apprenticeship and driving. In 79, I was only just over half way through primary school. They really do have a different “feel” about them, these episodes & this couldn’t have been a more appropriate end to the Terry years....

On again today & I will never tire of it. Also, and as last few showings - far less, or even uncut now. Like many of series 7 - 5/5.

A great assortment of characters in this. Roy Kinnear was so funny, his dodgy smile always makes me giggle. The expression on his face as he drives past having spotted the police is priceless Totally agree, and as also mentioned this is top Minder Material.

After a blistering start, series 4 seems to have taken a breather with this one. It's entertaining enough and the interraction with the bike gang is very funny but the storyline seems a bit weak overall. This is only my opinion. Part way through S4, Minder lost the raw, gritty, hard edge that it previously had. Times had changed in as much that locations were being redeveloped and weren't as run down as the early series, cars on the road were more modern looking, fashions were moving on and what was once acceptable dialogue, not to mention the violence in S1 - S3 , had changed considerably due to new rules and regs. I enjoyed Minder after S4 but it wasn't the same. Only my thoughts. I agree mate, there was quite a change in styles from around 1984 in the era, and it shows in these episodes.

Worth’s 4/5 but not the full 5. Just a bit too weak in a couple of areas, mainly being a bit far fetched. There are some great moments in this episode though.

Was it me, or did the picture quality of the film seem of a poorer quality for this episode?

I agree - the one liners in this episode or something else, utterly brilliant episode. Used this episode in the “ITV Remembers “ one off back in early 1989, a week after they did the same for Sweeney. Even though Minder was still showing on ITV a series 7 around that time?!?.....

A real character, he did a very astute job at Boro. He set some very different rules could have been paid more, no contract, but couldn’t be sacked. Also, had to have 3 days off a week to go fishing etc. He painted the ground, and even chose the Boro kit. He attributed some of his Boro downfall to not stumping up the extra cash to fund the signing of David Cross, something which was vindicated as he did a great job as a striker for West Ham for a long time. I think he also did a decent job at Sheffield Weds, his spell at Newcastle was very short, he had no transfer budget, had inherited a team that Arthur Cox had just taken up, but quit in a shock move to Derby, who were then in the old 3rd division. Keegan had just retired and he had to let McDermott go,as they couldn’t agree on terms for a contract. RIP Jack - as mentioned, a real character and far more successful manager than his brother Bobby was

For some reason, an episode in have watched a lot less than many others. The ending feels a bit rushed. I like the way Rycott is almost sticking up for Daley, saying how it wasn’t his thing.

I often think it would have been the best episode to end it on, and the still on Arthur’s face at the end, when he smiles as he tells Maltese that he’ll have to “buy it now” could have almost been a parting shot of an era, or potentially forever, which it is for me, as I don’t do the Ray era shows.... Regarding Ray, you're missing a lot of good stuff! But each to their own. I tried them back in 1991, and have watched the odd repeat over the years, just can’t get into them.

I thought it was good, but I was expecting better, enjoyed it - as you say, Pacino just about outdone De Niro in that one. “Heat “was another great film featuring them both.
