One of the best film composers ever. Many of my favourite film scores were done by him. Far too many for me to list here.
RIP Mr Morricone.

Was touring with full orchestra until quite recently. Saw him 7 years ago, conducting is something that you could continue doing up to 90.

There is not much more beautiful than the theme from The Mission, Gabriel's Oboe written by Ennio. Also the theme for The Life And Times Of David Lloyd George TV series which reached No.2 in the UK singles chart in 1981, just two of his lesser known compositions. Rest In Peace Signore. Gabriels Oboe was used on an Aer Lingus advert back in the 80s You're home - YouTube

Like a lot of people I think of The Good, The Bad and the Ugly first when he is mentioned but his score for Danger:Diabolik is a close second. An impressive body of work in a number of film genres.
Rest In Peace

Very sad to hear this. If time allowed I would have liked to discover more of his work.
Suffice to say I loved the 'spaghetti western' themes - he stamped his distinct mark on them, and as per Lalo Schifrin or John Barry, you could sense it was him, even if you didn't know the piece of music.
R.I.P. Ennio Morricone.

I liked his menancing "Good,Bad and Ugly" theme tune. "Dooodle oodle doo Bam Bam Bam"
RIP Ennio

I mean his Ecstasy of Gold composition was used on a H&M advert just the other day, that I saw. I think he’s totally ingrained in the consciences of even the most cinematically ignorant people.
I bet if you played themes from stuff like TGTBATU, to someone who’d never even seen it before they would recognise the tune.

The movie has had a ton of exposure on TV here over the decades. Even if someone couldn’t remember the title they could at least identify it as a Clint Eastwood movie. Other recordings of the theme have been released here to varying success and those opening notes have been referenced and spoofed in various movies and TV shows.
