Average for me - like The Beer Hunter, it needs a decent back story like Arthur trying to get rid of some dodgy gear to give it a lift rather than concentrating on the Terry/Peter story. I can see the storyline having its merits but it just doesn't seem like Minder this one. The weakest of this series for me.

I voted 'good' on this one but only because of the acting of GC and the interplay between Arthur, Terry and Yorkie. The story is a bit limp (an old friend comes down to London and loses his trousers?) and it really needs a decent back story to elevate it. Having said that, there are some wonderful exchanges and seeing Arthur 'Brahms' is always a joy. Not one of my favourite from S2 but certainly worth watching.

I mentioned this before but I think it's worth mentioning again - prices vary wildly across the different Amazon sites so it's worth (until we leave the EU at least) checking which one is the cheapest for a particular item. Every item on Amazon has a unique code called an ASIN number and can be found under 'product details'. Copy that number and then go this site: www.heidoc.net/amazon/amazon_global_check.php....and paste it into the relevant box. It will then check the prices across the global Amazon sites so you can see which is the cheapest and give the price in the local currency and your own at current exchange rates. You have to factor in postage on top of that but you get a good idea if it's a bargain or not. If you're using one of the foreign Amazon sites then your log-in details are the same for your home one, you don't need to create a new account. Similar to the Camel price checker I've mentioned on here, you can also create an account so that you're alerted when the price of an item drops to the level you've set. I've used it a few times and save a fair bit, the most recent being the RSD albums I was after which were significantly cheaper abroad, even after postage to the UK.

Lennon on lead with Macca on drums. Lennon wrote it on holiday and was eager to put it down straight away when he got back, so much so that he didn't want to wait for the other two to get back.

A Liverpool legend but beneath that affable exterior there was a determined and ruthless streak. He was very much part of the boot room and played an essential part in the club's success of the 70's and 80's.

Certainly a good writer, a brilliant creation and a great legacy. I actually thought the TV adaptations with John Thaw were better than the books to be honest. I think he said he conceived Morse as someone quite different but John Thaw's portrayal took over in his mind. I always enjoyed looking for his cameos in the shows. Yes, it was noticeable that the character seemed to change and began to resemble the John Thaw portrayal a bit more. Certainly in the early books he drove a Lancia but Dexter changed it to a Jaguar as seen in the TV series.

They're really good, Zimbo - I like the first few series of the tv programme but the books are better, particularly The Wench Is Dead.

The creator of Inspector Morse has died at the age of 86. Some may not care for the John Thaw series but there's no denying the brilliance of the original books.
RIP.

Spot on there, Daz - but if I had to choose, I'd go for Blue. I've always been fascinated by their recording process and thus favour the later, more experimental tracks. A couple of tracks on Red I can skip, namely Michelle and Girl, but on Blue there's only Old Brown Shoe. Strawberry Fields, Penny Lane, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds and the peerless A Day In The Life clinch it for me.
The story behind the recording of Strawberry Fields is particularly interesting in that it's actually two recordings stitched together. After John's acoustic demo (sadly not recorded) for George Martin they set about recording the song but were never happy with a complete take having tried it in different keys and at different speeds. GM questioned John as to what he was trying to achieve and he said that he liked the start of one take but the end of another so could he (GM) join them up? GM explained that it was almost impossible because of the differences but Lennon just said words to the effect of, "I'm sure you'll figure it out." So, Martin slowed down the later take and amazingly found that it matched the earlier one exactly. The join can be heard about one minute into the track, at the start of one of the 'Let me take you down' lines.

I might have to abstain I still find it astonishing when you see the tracks listed like that just how good they were. Some of the consistency might have tailed off in the final couple of years but they still produced stone cold classics that will still be played in 50 years time.

As I said, you can imagine him saying it but he didn't. People have put up pictures of Lennon being interviewed with supposed subtitles quoting him as saying it which fuels the story, but the actual transcripts show that he didn't.

Always feel a bit sorry for Ringo. I think it was John that said that Ringo would have been a star without or without the Beatles. The same John when asked if Ringo was the best drummer in the world, replied 'hes not even the best drummer in the band' It's a great quote but unfortunately it's not true as John never said that, although it's sounds like the sort of acerbic but witty thing he would say. John rated Ringo very highly and wouldn't have said that about him, certainly not in public as they remained friends throughout. The actual quote came from Jasper Carrott after John had been shot dead and seems to have grown into an urban myth accepted as fact. Chief Beatles aficionado Mark Lewisohn claims to have read, listened and viewed every available John Lennon interview he ever did for his 3 part book (part 1 covering the period up to 1962 came out a couple of years ago, part 2 covering 62-66 is due in 2020!) and could find no trace of him ever having said it but did find the quote from Jasper Carrott.

I saw this show last year on one of the two nights it played in St Albans - good night out and well recommended. I was gutted I couldn't go then and was hoping they'd come back but nothing so far.

Tom was great in the role but I missed a lot of his tenure initially through living abroad so we were only getting the Pertwee shows that I'd already seen in the UK, hence he's my favourite Doctor. Tom would probably be second but that's only because I've seen so little of Patrick Troughton in comparison, thanks to the BBC's shortsightedness.

Gemma Collins - thankfully, I have absolutely no idea who she is Good to see that my reserve pick, James Corden, is hated by my forum brethren as well! My most hated person in the public eye is actually Kelvin McKenzie but I wouldn't class him as a celebrity, even by Gemma Collins' standards, whoever she may be. I will raise a glass the day he shuffles off and I hope it isn't painless for him, the tw@t.
