Top notch. Didn't I see this on ITV4 a few years ago? More pork pies than my local butcher. Wholeheartedly concur this is right up there with the best of 'em!

This episode always feels like it's from a much earlier series of Minder to me. Could have easily been series 1, 2 or 3 when Minder was at its very best IMO.

I was looking forward to seeing this one again and it's an absolute classic. Too many classic lines in this one. I love where Arthur claims that Daley's Deal has "more steaks through it than Dracula". Great to see Rycott and Chisholm together. I wouldn't argue with anyone who said that this was the best ever episode.

This and Goodbye Sailor are my top two Terry episodes. I never tire of watching both again and again and again...

Another thing that amazes me with this one is the car park/field they go to to train the dog (Old Oak Common). Such an iconic bit of TV history in my opinion, that car park has just overgrown and been fenced off these days and should have preserved solely out of respect for this episode! goo.gl/maps/ngCDhAYu7R52

A classic Minder line from Rycott - "Daley and McCann are as good as holding hands on the exercise yard in the scrubs"

A classic Minder line from Rycott - "Daley and McCann are as good as holding hands on the exercise yard in the scrubs" This has to be one of my favourite lines from the entire run, delivered to perfection by Peter Childs. It doesn't matter how many times I hear it, I always giggle. I am sure it is the way he says it, splitting it up into blocks - legend.

Forgot to mention taff bladdered and then suffering a hangover. "You're 4 hours late Jones" Good scenes for taff in this..rip Micheal Povey.

Watched this episode for the first time when I got back from the boozer drunk on Friday night. Fell asleep half way through! So re-watched yesterday evening and loved it. One of the very best, Arthur scamming away with the dog and the video recorders, Terry putting himself about, some good supporting characters in Tasty Tim, Ted and Fred. But what makes this episode so good for me is the interplay between Chisholm and Rycott. They steal it for me - the barney they have after collaring Tasty outside his gaff - "... and causing Mr Chisholm to crash his motor car into mine!" followed by the look on Chisholms face.
Malahide and Childs are brilliant, and I was so saddened to read that Peter Child's passed away so young, I had no idea he was no longer with us. Also, he passed away during the production of Minder when he was still an active character. I like how Rycott started off as the bent street wise detective but grew a comedic edge over the years. He pulled off both aspects of the character so well.
Which was his last episode?

‘An Officer & A Car Salesman’ was the last Terry episode to be filmed (although it was shown before series 7) so that was Peter Childs' last performance really.

I can't understand why this episode was one of the few omitted from the Minder DVD set that I have from Freemantle! Glad I kept the Clear Vision disc I have of it! JB

JB This episode was first broadcast as a Christmas special iirc so was probably left out for that reason. It's on a 'Minder Specials' dvd which could well be from FM.

'Speiler' is a great word. Indeed great bit of slang. Figured it must come from the German verb 'Spiel'. It was first mentionned by Maurice in one or both of his series 1/2 episodes. He refers to the punters as Spielers. He may also refer to a Speieler as a gambling den as well in these episodes. So I guess the club they play in during 'Aces high....' would also be considered a Spieler after hours.

Venues that would accept virtually anyone as long as they had a hand full of cash.

The word Speiler is German in origin and is used here in America as is speil. It's usually associated with circus/sideshow barkers, hustlers and pitchman of questionable goods or services.

It's not really a festive episode though is it. It was probably just held back to be put on at Christmas! Shame as I would have liked to have all the Terry episodes together and I never really liked the Ray Daley episodes enough to buy them! JB

It was classed as a Christmas special (it was originally shown on Boxing Day) and its 5 minutes longer than the usual episodes. It was released on the Umbrella release.

Watched earlier this week, and on the "other forum", I observed something I doubt was scripted, but let Patrick Malahide use some artistic licence Look at the first photo, he is clearly pointing at the word SWEENEY, in the following shot, he has switched fingers and has his middle finger over the word SWEENEY. Anyone else notice it?

Yes, I remember this. I think I noticed the headline when I first watched it but hadn’t clocked his finger positioning. Good observation
