I always loved this episode. The happy scene at the end where Arthur does his drunken speech is one of my favourite moments of any tv programme. Just a delight.

Arthur belching out a puff of cigar smoke when John mentions the record player and the look on Arthurs face when Muriel says that she was told it was designed for the Swedish(?) market etc. are pure class

Flash Gordon if I'm not mistaken Baz! JB Quintessential 80s lady. She was the despot's daughter in the Blakes 7 episode "Warlords" where she's more than a little Toyah-esque as I recall.

Yes but especially with her natural black hair and red lips she's still irresistible to me! JB

Bobbie Brown was fine, too... Don't believe it's been mentioned yet, but credit to the actor playing Rowan, Gary Waldhorn...did well, just as the others did. I liked how Alex offered to at least by a round of drinks in the end Yes Bobbie Brown was great in this and I don't mean in just a looks way but she played her part very well, a shame she appears to have given up television acting in 1989. She is one of a number of actors/actresses who to the majority of the British public their name means nothing however to Minder fans they are held in very high regard and we are rather fond of them, other examples include Diana Malin, Fred Evans and Jumoke Debayo. I find Gary Waldhorn to be excellent in everything I've seen him in, I remember him from when I was very young as I used to watch Brush Strokes and liked him in that as Lionel. It was an interesting concept that the bad guy (Alex Rowan) turned out to be not so bad and in the end teamed up with Terry, Arthur, Morrie, John and Muriel in order for him, John & Muriel to all get their money. The final look from Ted Standen to John with that wry smile was almost one of respect for that fact he was able to get one over on him.

Yes, as of this time, I've seen a few episodes of that, and some of his moments as Lionel are very memorable. It was an interesting concept that the bad guy (Alex Rowan) turned out to be not so bad and in the end teamed up with Terry, Arthur, Morrie, John and Muriel in order for him, John & Muriel to all get their money. Yes..also see Around The Corner, where the two lads did similar...though there they had the "threat" of Tel "maiming" them. The final look from Ted Standen to John with that wry smile was almost one of respect for that fact he was able to get one over on him. Really? I didn't get even that much off of him there...from what I recall, seemed like a look of "I hate you, you git, and hope I never see you again", or even worse....coz Ted seemed that evil. Kind of, anyhow.

I love the bit where he’s exaggerating his confrontation with Standen, and describes him as a ‘n-nondescript squickpeep”. Also I think the concept of a Chippendale record player is up there with fire damaged woks and flood damaged umbrellas in the lock up of dodgy gear that Arthur has tried to shift over the years. They only work on Swedish electricty, apparently. All absolute classics which script writers deserve an awful lot of credit for. The Chippendale record player is comic genius. I wonder if it was a real item or something mocked up by the props department?

Kind of, anyhow. There was a very tiny smile as he looks at him and I took it to be that he was surprised his son had the guts to do what he did and that maybe there was a little bit of Ted in John after all. We hear Ted tell Muriel earlier in the episode that he feels his son is a wimp (or words to that effect) and that he's no son of his. However that is just my take on it you could be right, with just a look given it is open to interpretation.

The scene of Arthur doing his tax returns/ VAT or whatever in The Winchester sees Morrie come in and check Arthurs calculations. When Morrie's holding the piece of paper that has Arthurs workings on it, you can see that it's 'Winchester Club' headed paper.
Surely the crew didn't have just the one piece made up for this scene, especially seeing that it's not made prominent - you have to look for it.
I couldn't make out if there was any more text other than 'The Winchester Club' but it would be good to know a little more.
Was it produced for the series or was there a real Winchester Club somewhere that 'donated' some headed paper?

Seems like a fair bit of trouble to go to for a blink and you'll miss it item though. I must have watched this dozens of times over the years and haven't noticed it before.

Loved this episode. When I was growing up I was a bit obsessed with the Avengers, and less so The new Avengers but it was great to see coffee king Gareth Hunt doing nasty. Don't know how old the bloke playing his son was but I thought he looked way older then 18 and one of his friends at school looked older then I do now and I'm in my early 50s

I think he appears in the film Sweeney! in the newspaper office scenes which would have been filmed when he was 16, but he looked older.

On viewing this evening i picked up on something new. In the final scenes at the Winchester where Arthur is drunkenly telling everyone how he dealt with Stanton etc. Arthur says,
'I'd just like to say these few words...'
Terry replies,
'The drinks are on me.' and Arthur repeats them.
One of the Winchester customers in this scene is well known and recognised Minder/Sweeney/Professionals et al extra Eric Kent. After Arthur declares that the drinks are on him, Terry looks in Kents direction and says, 'What you having Eric? large Bacardi and Coke?'
Scripted or ad-libbed?
