American comedian, actor, producer and writer who was best known for his work in Britain with his BBC show that he wrote and starred in 'Kelly Monteith' (1979-1984) the show was very popular at the time and attracted a number of well known actors and actresses onto it.
I'm not the best person to post this as I am too young to have enjoyed and captured the moment of his shows but I have seen some of his work online as I kept seeing his show title on various performers imdb pages and became curious as to who and what the show was about. Apparently it was very popular in the early 80's and his style was seen as modern and ground breaking at the time although from what I've read I think he was quite modest about is talent.
He passed away on the 1st January 2023 so I think the first celebrity death of the year (the first one for 2023 listed here anyway) RIP

I remember him. I watched the show and I'm pretty sure it was pretty good. Gabrielle Drake played his girlfriend.

I remember this & he was really funny , his humour was based on observation & real life situations he had encountered . In the first couple of series Gabrielle Drake played his wife , but later on he was single again . R.I.P Kelly .

I remember the show - IIRC it was on BBC2 midweek evenings. I found it funny at the time, though for some reason he didn't seem to progress his TV career afterwards.
I didn't know about his death and I am sorry to hear about it.
R.I.P. Kelly Monteith.

Used to watch his show when I was at my grandparents' house. My gran liked him which always surprised me as she wasn't a big fan of comedy generally.
He always seemed like an amiable chap. As Albert said his show was very popular and it is surprising he didn't have a more high profile career.

He always seemed like an amiable chap. From what I've read yes he was, a comedian and writer Bennett Arron (no I've never heard of him either) had said in an interview that along with his own father, Morecambe & Wise and Tommy Cooper that Kelly Monteith was one of his favorite comedians, Kelly had heard about it and contacted him to thank him. There is a fair bit of Kelly Monteith on youtube for those that want to be taken back to early 80's.
