British actress best known for her role as Elizabeth Warden in 'Keeping Up Appearances' has died at the age of 91. She is also well remembered for her roles in 'Last Of The Summer Wine' and 'Shelley' along with her work with The Two Ronnies, and appearing alongside Barker in the sitcom 'Clarence' other shows include 'Odd Man Out' with John Inman and 'The Dick Emery Show'. She worked so well in her scenes with Patricia Routledge in 'Keeping Up Appearances' had a lovely speaking voice and was able to play that nice polite English lady perfectly. RIP

A very recognisable performer. Great fun as Shelley’s landlady.
RIP Mrs H.

I've watched all of 'Keeping Up Appearances' in the last few months as the family like it. You know what, despite the negativity it often receives, compared to 95% of current TV output, it's way better. She's great as Elizabeth and this is sad to read. There's about twice in the series where she really makes a determined effort NOT to spill her coffee, coming up with some ingenious plan to avoid a bit of spillage, and these little exceptions are great in a show that is often accused of being a one joke show. There's a few very subtle moments where you see that her and Hyacinth's husband Richard would have been so good together as a couple, brought together by their similar dislike of the overbearing that Hyacinth brings to aggravate everyone's day. Richard and Elizabeth are both very laid back forgiving people and I'm sure the writers saw this connection more in the final series as I see a bond beginning that wasn't emphasised so much in the previous series. In the meantime though ... "I'll get you another one dear" RIP Josephine, thank you for making me laugh so much.

A sitcom stalwart and thorough professional who brought a touch of class to everything she appeared in. jno is dead right re the very subtle hints of a fondness between her character and Richard Bucket and it's a pity that aspect wasn't played upon just a tiny bit more...
RIP Dear lady
