The original Uhura in Star Trek passed away today at the age of 89. Her death is just now making the news. Best known for her association with Star Trek she also worked for decades with NASA to recruit women and members of various ethnic groups to work in the space program.
Rest In Peace

She was the first Black actress to have a prominent role in a weekly US television series. I feel like she should have had more screen time and factored into more plots, but it was still a groundbreaking role. RIP

A very iconic actress. Albeit she didn’t ever star in much. Outside of Star Trek I remember her from Truck Turner and The Supernaturals and that’s about it..

Very sad to hear this. By all accounts an incredibly nice person in addition to being a legend and pioneer for black actors in the arts in the USA.
