Another good episode. Nice that the connection between Archie and Arthur is finally established. I did think Jamie have experience as a boxer was a bit too much like Terry but it worked well in this episode. This version of Minder sadly hit its stride too late. I don't believe it could have had the longevity of the original but another six episodes with Archie and Jamie might not have been bad.

Finished the ´box set´ which was on sale in Poundworld (which now defunct, cos Poundland brought them out) with bonus extras, deleted scenes and bloopers.
Neither good or bad imo. Just take it as it is.
Pity they couldn't incorporate George in some way before he died.

It is hard to think that its 8 years since this was broadcast!
I remember watching this on telly, and thinking to myself "finally it feels like im watching MINDER". Later in the episode, when Archie said "if my uncle Arthur could see me now" I started crying, as my own uncle Arthur had recently passed away, and what Archie said echoed my own feelings.
I really think this programme deserved a second series!

I think the last two episodes were on the right track and showed potential for it continuing.

The only other mention of his uncle Arthur was in a trailer for the series, that oddly was not included on the dvd.

The only other mention of his uncle Arthur was in a trailer for the series, that oddly was not included on the dvd. The first official link for me was at the end of 'Better The Devil You Know' when Archie is clearly talking about, albeit insinuating that it was Arthur that gave him a break. He does this when he's talking to Jamie in the apartment at the end. Also in 'In Vino Veritas' as I wrote over on the Minder episode guide on minder.org, there is a Dave link in the dialogue: When Archie and Jamie return to Petra's pub Archie discovers the name of the pub has been changed to 'The Winchester'. Archie tells Petra, "Dave'd be proud of you sweetheart" leaving the viewer to ponder on whether Dave is still around or not.
The use of 'd contraction in that sentence is certainly "Dave would be proud you" but for me could mean either Dave is still around or Dave is no longer around. It is open to interpretation.

Yes, ambiguous dialogue that doesn't say either way.

Tim Loane had planned an episode for series 2 that saw the return of Arthur. Although I doubt if they would have been able to convince George Cole to reprise his role to be honest.

I'm was really amazed Josie Lawrence was in episode. It's a big deal. She was always on British television with Whose Line Is It Anyway with the other improvised comedian. Some of them were a massive deal at the time like Ryan Stiles (Hotshots 2).
The point of Whose Line is it Anyways was for the 'contestants' to impress the host with scenes asked for and the host would give them points based on their performances. Josie Lawrence was known for being one of the rare contestants because she was well... umm female, so some of the things they made her show was well... for show for obvious reasons making her one of the well known contestants on the show. I mean they were all in to make the show work and worth watching. It was meant to rake in views and it's clear why she went on the show for.
Having said that, I think it was meant to be a HUGE DEAL that she played Delilah Daley, Archie's wife who's pushing forward for the divorce and I've never seen her go that her in that 'light'. I mean it was a big deal to me. She was firey hot in this episode. Extremely firey and really cunning. Clearly made to have people talk about Minder with her being in it.

This episode really has me jumping up and down just because Josie Lawrence was in it. Apparently when she first appeared on Whose Line Is It Anyways, she was popular enough to have her own television show. It was a comedy show in 1991 named after herself 'Josie'.
It's worth noting however, Josie only had six episodes and like this reboot of Minder, it never had good ratings for her show to be renewed for a second season. A bit eerie putting it that way but I think the producers must have known about it and was hoping that it would have helped her because she has been doing comedy for years and give that type of attention. She did appear in other shows and even films. Her show Josie hasn't got a DVD release, maybe for obvious reasons. I think the show really has Channel 4 type humour. That hard zany feel to it.
After further thought on this episode, I would really think they've cast her with the idea, just in case this season was successful to be spawned for a second season as Delilah Daley was Archie Daley's wife anyways and played a big role maybe in seasons to come but I think it's clear the story really made it out to be like their last anyways with the ending.

I remember Josie Lawrence from the cricket comedy 'Outside Edge' which was rather good I thought.
If one disregards the prejudices surrounding this series, personally I thought Josie Lawrence did a good job as Delilah Daley. In this one she was meant to be the super b1tch and she certainly comes across as one. As a 'married to Archie' connection she is not true Daley "family' of course and clearly she is out get as much as she can from Archie in this one - and does a pretty good job in achieving it.
When I first saw here in this I thought 'a weak story just nosedived' but on a second viewing, it was much easier to accept and I actually though she did a very decent job in the role.
When I saw this episode (live) for the first time on FIVE, I must say I was still expecting something of the quality of Arthur & Ray - this was a different show though and needed to be judged on its own characters and merits - it could never be the same as before so we should not have expected that sort of quality show to just reappear. At time of posting this episode has 4 'Good' votes above, which means at least a few of us recognised the show on its own merits I feel.

I watched this one again yesterday, I must say it is actually quite good. I think of the six this is clearly one of the better episodes. I think pr1's comment about hitting its stride is very much correct here.
The interplay between Archie and Jamieafter the fight is excellent stuff. Also Jamie getting his own back on Carlo Rocks is top dollar - this is a superb revenge beating up of a bad guy that well, we all know well and and truly deserved it. This Jamie dishing out the some fair play pain - top stuff.
Despite the negative press around this series, it remains loyal to the end, and as is written over on the minder.org episode guide, the last 15 minutes of this episode are in my opinion, superb stuff in its own right.

I remember watching most of the episode with with my mum,on the original broadcast, who was 75 at the time, i said "I can't imagine Arthur talking to the kids he is trying to sell the clothes to like that" she said "But he isn't Arthur, that's the thing"
Suddenly I realised that I had been comparing him to George cole and Arthur too much, and not really looking at it on its own strengths.

I still think they could have had a few little nods to the original, like a picture of Arthur in the lock up etc

It was strange,as my mum did not watch all of the episode with me,as she had done throughout the series ,but she retired to bed early that night. I recall Telling her the end of it and the next day and saying Jamie "gave the bloke a good walloping" and the "if my uncle Arthur could see me now" line.
When we watched it on DVD, she was said " oh! So that makes Deliah Arthur's niece by marriage? Was that them getting married in Ray daleys first episode?!"

I agree with YoYo, this version of Minder definitely deserved a second series. It was very enjoyable in its own right and improved as the characters developed.
The big mistake Channel 5 made, was to try and take on Live Champions League football with it. Losing a huge amount of potential viewers in the process. Had they shown it on a Monday, Tuesday or even Friday at 9pm, I'm convinced that the viewing figures would have been drastically improved. I also find it very strange that, to the best of my knowledge, it has never been repeated anywhere on UK tv. A very promising show, bungled by Channel 5.

I can remember seeing an interview with Shane Richie in possibly the radio times a little while after the series had aired and he said "we MAY be doing something next year" I don't think he was implying a series, maybe a Xmas special. I'm sure a Christmas or boxing day night one off would have been good,as the original series was intending on taking this route after it ended....

I thought this one was a bit wet and self-indulgent with a weak story line. Not very gripping, not very funny and too predictable. Josie Lawrence lifted it a bit but she was the only one doing any work. Everyone else was pretty two-dimensional. The story line just hopped along without trying, it seemed to me. To have Jamie as a poker star last episode stretched it but now a boxer and boxing trainer as well? And agreements made and charges dropped at the end just like that - yeah, right.
I can see I am going against the flow as it gets lots of Goods but for me it doesn't match episodes 3 and 5. Average only, I'm afraid and all this talk of another series cuts no ice with me I'm afraid.
