Watched this for the third time last night. I still think it's a good episode and I like it but each time I watch it my enjoyment of it dips a bit.

I just watched the original broadcast version of this one, with the deleted ‘nowhere man’ scene on Dailymotion (or should that be Daleymotion? Ba-boom tish!)
A memorable episode because it is so different from most others but as many have said it’s all a bit of a muddle and overly farcical towards the end.
Best moment for me is when A & T visit Georgie Silver who is playing tennis in his office, he hands Arthur a large glass of carrot juice ‘packed with Vitamin d’ and his tennis racket, while banging on about healthy lifestyle, then pours himself a large scotch.
And the look on the little lad’s face when Arthur catches him burying his hat in the sandpit is lovely.
Now did I imagine this, or did someone post on here a while back to say ‘that little lad was me’? Something is ringing a bell but my memory is not what it was!
And on a personal note that 635i that Kenny ‘borrows’ is lovely (it’s my avatar). Screen price £11,995 was a lot in them days but you’d need to find more than that if you wanted one in good nick nowadays, A proper classic.

My player decided it didn’t like this episode and the next and threw a wobbler. First time I’ve played it so it’s pristine but it got as far as the snooker scene then skipped and ground to a halt. I’d return it but have had it since 2008 or 9 so another reason to splash out on the DW set or complete series in the next sale.

Not a great endorsement of the episode if even the disc players are starting to reject it

They seem to have jumped quite quickly from series 1 though.

Don't know why unless the PC brigade have struck again. Have them all on DVDs of course but new viewers will be missing out on a lot of great TV sadly.

It’s not worth watching a lot of the old series on tv,channels not just ITV cut out so much it’s pointless showing the programs then have seemingly random playlists

Agree, jjmolloy - by doing a hatchet job on Minder and editing it so savagely a whole generation of new viewers will be denied what is undoubtedly some of the finest television of the last 40 years or so.

Yes, it's a pity Talking Pictures can't get their hands on Minder.

Unfortunately talking pictures also cut scenes from shows and films, it seems now tv channels are terrified of someone complaining about language that was used over thirty years ago

It is a surreal episode, but I bet it was great fun filming at the Dreamhouse. DW seems to be ad-libbing and really enjoying himself.

Yes but in the original as broadcast back in the day we would have seen more of Ms.Davis' ''talents'' The Minder DVDs produced by Australian company Umbrella are the only totally uncut ones available.

I wouldn't have thought there's a single episode of Minder shown on ITV4 that is 100% as originally broadcast.

I have the Complete Minder DVDs by Freemantle from 2009 and I am pretty happy with them. I have looked at the prices of the Umbrella DVDs and they are pretty pricey though. It's just that when they are shown on ITV4 it gives me a nudge to put the corresponding DVD episode on.

Except that it got to as far as Beryl telling Arthur that the two of them are "combatable" (as opposed to "compatible"). Then it ground to a halt, similarly on the first time of playing. I have to say that until that point I had found this episode rather heavy going an not as good as other episodes. I never did find out what happened.......

Surreal episode. Some strange goings on but Richard Griffiths and Wanda Ventham on great form. Talking of which, do any of you wise folks know anything else that Emma Williams (Janet) appeared in?

I watched this episode again one day last week and enjoyed it as always. I can see why some people don't like it but I find it very watchable.

I used to think of Dreamhouse as my least favourite Terry McCann episode, but over the years my appreciation of the episode has grown everytime I watch it. Infact I can honestly say I have got a lot of fondness for Dreamhouse. The whole thing is so surreal and bonkers but if I just go along for the ride I have a great time. I also feel it is one of those episodes that when you watch it again you pick up something that you missed the last time you watched it. It isn't an episode you can take seriously, I mean how could you - it's not so much Dreamhouse as Madhouse - with a piano in a pool and people seemingly throwing themselves into it, two inept northern gangsters, Arthur on the run from a widows two sons, Arthur dealing in mechanical flying pigs, two random girls showing up, crazy fistfights, all held together by Richard Griffiths excellent off the wall performance. The other thing I get from all this is just how much fun the cast are all having. Love the scenes between Arthur and Beryl, his face when she is eating that asparagus is hilarious. Favourite line? When Terry and Arthur enter the Dreamhouse for the first time and see the piano and furniture - "Her indoors would love this little lot" - "Why? Can she play?" - " No, she just likes polishing things". A crazy 4 out of 5.

It started out promising..right up to when Tel settles in for the night...though i waant too keen on the kenny/ pig story running parralell..and Richard Griffiths turns up...i thought here we go he's just gonna take over...this is gonna be drearily predictable just the two of them bickering...but than Tel and him hit it off...and the 3rd storyline of Beryl picks up....this just got better and better and the ending for me was fantastic...all 3 stories coming together....the title dreamhouse is so apt...the story was almost like a crazy dream...the dinner table scene with the asparagus...and Arthur's " oh gawd" when he sees his future fate in Beryls bedroom made me laugh. This episode may have scored a poor or average a quarter of the way in but pulled its way to excellent. An episode I'd never seen before makes it all the more gratifying

Nice scheduling by ITV 4 today; The Sweeney 'Hearts And Minds' followed by Minder 'Dreamhouse'. IMHO two weak episodes together. Means I can get some work done outside, especially as no Big Match to watch at dinnertime.

I happen to like them but i realise that they're not amongst the most well thought of with lot of forum members. There's some cracking, quintessentially Minder scenes and dialogue in both.

Maybe I was a bit harsh. To be fair both episodes start off well but seem to run out of ideas and end up in farce. I can't diss Eric and Ernie for trying to branch out, and it is fun seeing DW's attempts not to corpse, and as for Dreamhouse, I can't help wondering if more could have been made of the Arthur sub plot, although of course they might have had to change the title of the episode. Still not happy about no Big Match though!

I watched this yesterday on ITV4.
Not one of the best; it turned into a sort of comedy runaround. Bits were OK, but it's not one I'd rush to watch again. Mind you, we did get to see the Shadows about half an hour in and the house was amazing. I'd be interested in buying that house if it's on the market... but I may be a few pounds short.

When Terry met Beryl ... From BBC's Thirty Minute Theatre 'Walt King of the Dumper', first broadcast on BBC Two on Mon 20th Sept 1971 at 22:10. ( genome.ch.BBC.co.uk/90d0f840c8e747f7ac474d5b843f3685 ) This particular episode might still exist but apparently the BBC wiped most of them.
