Sad news indeed. Being a Jock I don't often praise England at Football, but cap always doffed for the players of that team.
They always seemed so humble when they spoke about it.

Fair play, that 1966 team were something special. Being a Cymro, even I have to acknowledge that.
It was a World Cup victory that created and generated a culture of expectation in the media. Only recently, 50 years after the event, have the media gained an actual sense of footballing realism.
It was never the players who boasted about 1966. In fact, that England team were far better individuals than many modern footballers. Gordon Banks, the Charltons, Bobby Moore (shockingly overlooked by the football establishment in the 1970s!), Nobby Stiles et al. Ordinary guys who became World Cup winners.
RIP Martin. And well done. You achieved something that many young men dream of, but very few ever achieve.
