An all time classic with the right mix of comedy elements, probably my favourite series one episode after "the smaller they are"

I really enjoyed this episode. Great to see Alfred Burke from Public Eye playing a different role, with a nice twist in the tale. Des does seem to be a bit of a rogue but I don't know why the rich bloke at the end would buy that old motor off him even if the number plate has his initials on it!
When I saw Darryl Read I thought he was that glass expert from The Antiques Roadshow Andy McConnell when he was young. He has the same wonky teeth!

Like Des explains, the rules were (at that time) that to transfer a registration both vehicles had to be owned by the same person. I personally knew of someone who had a five letter surname and was amazed to be passed on the motorway by a Fiesta with the numberplate bearing his surname (the last 2 characters were 8Y, which looks very like BY). He followed the Fiesta, and when it stopped at the services, made the owner a generous offer to buy his 1981 car, and the plate is still travelling round the town on the latest in a succession of Jags that he's owned.
