Hello boys and girls, or should that be girls and boys? Over the last few months the Doctor Who thread has been a hotbed of activity, which has triggered a great deal of discussion and has primarily divided fans into two factions: Those that don't care or like the idea that the lead character is now for the first time being played by a leading lady as opposed to a lead man, and obviously those that think this is a step too far and that the Doctor's sex should have been left as it was. Well here at Death Match land, now that the show has been running a few weeks, we want your opinions. After all I mean they did it with Ghostbusters, didn't they.. So what's next? Jane Bond? Sherlock Homemaker? Diet Hard? Who knows.... So this latest Death Match concerns itself with the question - 'Do you like it when they change the sex of established characters'?? No, it's annoying. I can handle a black James Bond no problem, but gender changing to suit the PC brigade is pathetic. That said, if Jodie Whittaker WAS a real Dr, I'd be making a booking for my prostate examination Love the Ed Wood film poster by the way.

It also grips my $hit when a film includes a female that has NO relevance to the film at all, almost like a token gesture. Alien v Predator is a prime example.

They announce they're gonna remake Ghostbusters but with women in the roles, so what. I wasn't going to watch the remake whoever (or whatever) they'd cast. I suppose I'm primarily against it, just based on the fact that whoever is pushing for it probably has some sort of agenda I don't agree with, when principally there's no need to have. Either that or they are so far out of ideas that they are relying on quick gimmicks. Why not just create a new show/film, instead of poncing off the name of an already existing one?

To this day I seem to remember Annette Bening adding absolutely nothing to the plot of Open Range, which would have been a really good movie without her. Not that she was bad, just that her character was absolutely unnecessary, and it irked me throughout. Maybe I need to rewatch it?

I was once a male trapped in a female body, but then my mother gave birth to me.

I voted who cares although I think it's a fantastic idea in the case of Dr Who, obviously.
Re Aliens v Predator Sana Lathan's character is plainly a nod to Sigourney Weaver's Ripley. Not done too badly, unlike say Katherine Waterston in Covenant.

I couldn't give a hoot, but I wouldn't go over the top. Doctor Who doesn't bother me, I don't think there is a need for it to be a man and the lass has done fine in her appearances so far, but James Bond would be a no for me, their skin can be any colour off the dulux colour chart, but not a female.
Not a huge fan of remaking films like Ghostbusters with an all female cast either, it smacks of tokenism and doesn't really push equality for me, so get new strong female characters written for them to play in new films and TV shows instead of going backwards and trying to rewrite history.

What if Rick Buckler and Bruce Foxton teamed up with housewife and singing sensation Pauline Weller?
Would it still be The Jam or would they call themselves Homemade Jam?

It seems "Who cares - I even like to dress up in clothes of the opposite sex sometimes." is the front runner. Arch, does the Who in this option refer to Doctor Who?

Btw Arch, is your new avatar Guy Fawkes or Chuck Norris doing his new show 'Shakespeare:Texas Ranger'? Either way, somehow I just can't see a woman playing that role - not like the success that Doctor Who has been.

I don’t have an issue with the new Doctor being a woman on Dr Who. The issue I have is with Jodie Whittaker. She doesn’t have the qualities of being the Doctor and I cannot take her seriously.
It’s as if Bubbles from Absolutely Fabulous or Raquel from Corrie was beamed into the tardis and she doesn’t know where the hell she is and told to take over The Doctor’s job of flying the tardis and battling aliens and villains.
She is so bland and when I watch it’s like watching a different show to Dr Who. They should of got an actress who was slightly older and eccentric and dressed liked a real lady in gothic or early 20th century ladies outfits.

her accent reminds me of Lancashire born Jane Danson. Except Whittaker is from Yorkshire.

Nobody's voted that they think it's a good idea to change the gender of a character yet..

I was disappointed when I heard that Dr Who was being regenerated female and I voiced that I thought it was a silly idea. Funnily when I watched it I thought it was quite good. I didn't expect to, but I liked it. I think Jodie is an interesting Doctor. If James Bond became Jane Bond, then I'd be disappointed. I love Bond. I mean, make a Jane Bond film, as James' sister who also works for MI6 (Lol What a family) but don't stop making James.
