Very sad news. He and Oliver Postgate made some 100% classic TV for kids with very little technology and these programmes are still enjoyed by kids young and old today.
Rest in Peace Peter Firmin and I hope his family take comfort from the fact that both he and his partner made the World that little bit better for us kids through their genius.
RIP

Michael Palin currently voices the new series in the UK with Bill Shatner doing the US duties on 'The Clangers'. How can you not love 'The Clangers'?

Sad to hear. He created brilliant, truly classic children's television.

Being American I've never seen the shows he was responsible for but have read about them. He has quite a legacy.

From a personal point of view I'll say him and Oliver Postgate's programmes brightened up many a gloomy winter's evening for me in the 1970s. My grateful thanks to both.

Yes the generation that made such atmospheric tv for us kids growing up in the 60s or 70s, are inevitably dying off. Postgate and Firmin were behind so many shows we remember.
