OTB was a great comedy series.

I read that a little earlier, a real shame, but a very good innings. Whilst it is very easy to ridicule the shows he wrote all those years ago, there is no denying they were very popular and attracted huge audiences, I am sure there are many comedy writers who could only dream of the success he achieved.
I like watching OTB, dated badly, but still has a charm of a long lost era.
RIP

I think OTB hasn't dated at all well. Certainly of its time. Holiday On The Buses DOES hit the spot though. Daz is correct, whilst some like me sneer at its limited merits, plenty of other writers would have given their left ball to come up with a hit series like that.

I think anyone that could create the character of Arthur Rudge (played brilliantly by Michael Robbins) and keep him fed with a never ending line of really funny sarcastic put downs deserves a lot of credit.

Well put MIAS - Arthur (and Blakey) were always my favourite characters. I know its often regarded as heresy to admit you like OTB but I do and I still watch it today. Thanks for the laughs Sir :-)

R.I.P. Ronald Chesney. I always like that scene (IIRC in the first OTB film) where the child's potty has a 'Standing Room Only' notice on it....

Just read his obituary in The Daily Telegraph.
Didn't realise he had been a successful harmonica player for some years as a younger man, before turning to writing in middle-age.
