Pacino Vs De Niro

Pacino for me. De Niro arguably the better actor but has been on auto pilot for the last twenty years. At least Pacino still looks like he's trying even if there's often a whiff of overripe ham about him these days.

What annoys me about Bob is that over the last 20 years he seems to have been turning into this odd caricature of himself. It's quite bizarre.

Oooooh, tough one. DeNiro was brilliant as was Al in their early films. Legacy wise, Pacino JUST nicks it, but I prefer Bob's films, even if off camera he is a nasty piece of work.

Watching Pacino's Shakespearean documentary Looking For Richard, he actually comes across as a decent bloke. De Niro just seems like a grumpy old sod and as Arch says his performances border on self caricature these days - you almost expect him to say "can I have my money now?"

I've gone for De Niro.
Particularly like his roles in 'Heat' and 'Ronin'. He plays the professional criminal very convincingly.

De Niro by far. He's really good at comedy as well as drama while Pacino has never really appealed to me.

In the end I think De Niro is a better actor. I shouldn't think I would like either of them if I ever met them though.

Great topic. Apparently they will co star in a film together called 'The Irishman' in 2019. I admire both of their works. I went through a De Niro and Pacino phase, trying to watch a lot of their films. I have seen 'Righteous Kill' 2008 which stars both of them. Quite a watchable film.

When you watch The Irishman, there's a lot of scenes with Al and Bob together. Al wipes the floor with him. He owns every scene he's in.

De Niro has been coasting on his reputation for years. At least Pacino still bothers to act. Plus, De Niro has turned into a total jerk.

I think De Niro has evolved more than AP. Can’t recall laughing at any AP roles but I’ve laughed at quite a few Bobby ones, starting with Midnight Run. But as you say, AP is better in The Irishman but the whole film is a bit strange tbh. Not a Scorsese classic by any means.

I thought it was good, but I was expecting better, enjoyed it - as you say, Pacino just about outdone De Niro in that one. “Heat “was another great film featuring them both.

I love Al Pacino in Insomnia, Donny Brasco - I thought fantastic character he played in that film and Sea of Love, off top of my head. I don't think I've seen anything with Robert de Niro and unlikely to, either
