OMG! Staggered by this news. My brother loved The Cranberries and I knew the first two albums really well. So young.
RIP.

That is horrible news. Dolores O'Riordan was an incredible beauty and her voice was amazingly haunting. She will be very missed.

Horrible news. She looked good and had a great voice. Their song Zombie, is easily one of my favourite singles.
46 is no age, two years older than me.
RIP

Could not believe this when I heard it on the news just a minute ago.
She'd had some ups and downs over the last few years but I really wasn't expecting to hear this. She leaves three children too which is terribly sad.
RIP.

Yes, it seems like just a short while ago that The Cranberries were a new indie-rock type band on the scene.
I liked 'Linger' though in some respects it was a bit twee.
Nevertheless, they were part of the re-invigoration of music in the early-mid 90s. Like Garbage or Skunk Anansie, they were close to the Britpop movement without especially being a part of it. They may even have been overlooked because of this, regarding chart success.
R.I.P. Dolores O'Riordan. It strikes home when a music star of my age bracket dies.

Amazing singer will be missed. Very sad and far too young. I know her work with the Cranberries is her most well known, but this song from her solo album is my favorite of hers. RIP
"Always be yourself along the way, Living through the spirit of your dreams. Beautiful girl, won't you be my inspiration ..."

RIP Delores, sad news of a sudden death. Just 5 months younger than me. As said - I was never their number 1 fan, but appreciated some of their fine songs like Linger,Dreams & of course Zombie

I used to think the same about 'Linger', a lot of folk liked it because of Dolores' quaint accent and the fact that a couple of catchy lines were easy to singalong to (which I'm sure, is why it became so popular) but look beyond that and the lyrics are actually very good. Regarding her age, I know exactly what you mean.

Quite frankly I know little of them beyond their top 30 hits, which IIRC didn't always get A-list airplay.
To me they fell between genres - in a kind of Irish-American hinterland that hinted at indie but also to U2, REM, The Corrs or Texas.
In 1994 they were emerging in the slipstream of U2s work of the period, but I suspect the UK youth were swept up by Oasis et al by the following year.
My memory is that their career kind of misfired because of this, and though the albums sold well the hit singles had quite low chart placings in the UK and USA.

No more news seems to be forthcoming about Delores' passing, was cause of death ever established?

No it seems to be April that will be released. Saw on youtube they performed on the One show last year and she looked quite healthy then. 46 was no age at all.

I won tickets to see The Cranberries at the Newport Centre on 6th October 1994. I came down from West Wales with a friend called Dorian on the bus and stayed at his sister’s house in Cardiff. It was a great night out. I liked the band and it’s very sad how Dolores died. Ridiculous Thoughts is one of my favourite songs.

Totally agree, to get so drunk that you drown in the bath means she must have been absolutely paralytically drunk. Tragic end for someone that had a lot of talent. No age either.

Tragic end for someone that had a lot of talent. No age either. I read that the inquest noted there were 5 empty miniature spirit bottles from the mini bar in the room and she'd started drinking 'after' speaking to her mother on the telephone from her hotel room. This would indicate that she'd taken 5 measures of spirits which to be fair isn't that much, especially to a fairly seasoned drinker which apparently Dolores was.

It was quite a fitting tribute that when she died 'Derry Girls' was airing on Channel 4 and that quite heavily featured music from the Cranberries. In the UK The Cranberries are only really known for three singles 'Linger', 'Dreams' and 'Zombie' all from 1994 I love all three and also really like the single 'I can't Be With You' from March 1995, I remember hearing it on Atlantic 252 when it first came out (seems like only yesterday).
RIP
