Now then, over the years the England football team have embarrassed themselves many times trying to be popstars when there is a tournament on, but which of these 20th century England tunes do you actually dislike the most?
Incredibly all of the songs listed (except *) were released with the approval of the English Football Association (FA) to coincide with the England national football team's participation in the finals of the FIFA World Cup or the UEFA European Championship.
Pick FIVE!
Back Home (World Cup 1970)
This Time (We'll Get It Right) (World Cup 1982)
England, We'll Fly The Flag (the B-Side) (World Cup 1982)
We've Got The Whole World At Our Feet (World Cup 1986)
When We Are Far From Home (the B-Side) (World Cup 1986)
All The Way (Euro 1988)
Englandneworder - World in Motion (World Cup 1990)
Baddiel & Skinner & Lightning Seeds - Three Lions (Football's Coming Home) (Euro 1996)
England United - (How Does It Feel to Be) On Top of the World
Baddiel & Skinner & Lightning Seeds - Three Lions '98 (1998) *

Until New Order, all of them were absolute pants. The first Lightning Seeds effort is a real footie anthem. 'Back Home' was the theme to Fantasy Football League, I quite like it! I voted Three Lions '98 as this clearly ca$h cow milking for me - releasing the same old song again after just 2 years, shame on them! For me, 'When We Are Far From Home' is total and utter cack.

I voted for the two from 1986 and the one from 1988.
I know England United isn't a classic but anything that includes Ian McCulloch and Simon Fowler can't be criticised (too much!
I'm in no hurry to see the Mike Bassett film again, but I loved this spoof of the England songs

Really poor death match this week. I have just forwarded your complaint to the Department of Hopeless Causes. That said, if we look at those that are NOT being voted for and use a bit of reverse psychology, it seems The Spice Girls are winning and proving more popular than the England squad!

Tough one this - I feel benevolent towards 'Back Home' because it was of its time. It introduced the 'crowd vocal' style that brought several similar hits in the early 70s, notably 'Nice One Cyril' Do beware though - they did a version of 'Ob La Di Ob La Da' with Bobby Moore on lead vocal, which is best avoided By 1982, they evidently thought that this time they had got it right again, but by now this was a dated formula. 'Three Lions' was a Britpop-type anthem and I like it. But it has become overplayed.
