I have just come across some news saying actor John Hurt has passed away after battling cancer for several years aged 77.
RIP John

A superb actor. Great in 'The Sweeney' which we will all know on here. The "Doppelgänger" part of 'Tomorrow Man' is superb - to think that George Cole and John Hurt are alongside in this episode is just quality from start to finish.
I saw him 'The Shout' recently - again, superb.
RIP

A fabulous actor, who's body of work will be remembered for a long time to come. He starred in many varied and iconic productions in both film and television. In fact he never seemed to stop working..
One of those actors that could turn his hand to lots of different stuff, be it as Winston Smith, Caligula, The Storyteller or Quentin Crisp. Voice actor or screen, he had strong presences in many fields, despite having an unremarkable build and average appearance.
Most recently I watched him in The Hit and he was superb in it.
RIP John. You will be missed.

I saw that he passed away last night and despite my knowing who he was I was surprised at how few of his films etc. I had seen. Even so I don't recall ever seeing a bad John Hurt performance.

Woke up to the new this morning. John was an amazing actor with such a distinctive voice. Obviously The Naked Civil Servant, The Elphant Man and Champion are among the best known of his work. I hope the TV companies do a good job of doing tributes to him. www.theguardian.com/film/2017/jan/28/john-hurt-obituaryRIP

A truly superb and gifted actor who brought class to every role he played, one of my favorites of his was the character Max in Midnight Express, a superb film.
RIP John
The acting world just lost one of the best.

He was great in the BBC remake of Whistle and I'll Come to You. RIP John.
Trivia. My brother once stood next to him in a pub at The alverton manor in truro. He resisted doing the alien coming out of chest gag as John may not have appreciated it.

He was great in the BBC remake of Whistle and I'll Come to You. RIP John. I prefer the Michael Hordern one, but yes it was a good performance from Hurt.

He was a very great actor. Both instantly recognizable in almost any part he did yet also making that part into something quite impressive.
