Whatever you think about these three, they (and their artists) had a lot of success between the mid-1980s through to the early 1990s. It is pretty clear that 'most' on this forum barf at the sheer mention of the term 'Stock Aitken Waterman', so as it is the season of goodwill - this death match is to find out which of the artists they produced that you actually dislike the least i.e. with a very long bargepole which of their artists could you just about tolerate or even like, and there are a LOT to choose from. With Debbie Harry, Edwin Starr, Sabrina and Judas Priest in the list there is plenty to choose from. Included here are probably the most popular ones, for a full list of other artists see here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stock_Aitken_Waterman#List_of_acts_that_have_performed_songs_written_and.2For_produced_by_SAWAs it's Christmas, PICK THREE!

Debbie Harry for me mainly because of her Blondie work although I do like her 'In Love With Love' SAW remix. I had to vote for Dead Or Alive as 'You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)' is my favourite SAW record. I also voted for Errol Brown although that's for his Hot Chocolate work.
Three others I like are Donna Summer and Bananarama but for their pre-SAW work and Hazell Dean as I like 'Searchin' (I Gotta Find A Man)', and 'Whatever I do (Wherever I Go)' which was a SAW production.

Again, I voted Debbie Harry and Errol Brown more for their previous work. Judas Priest is interesting. I see from Wikipedia that they recorded 3 songs together, but they didn't get used.

Bill Tarmey? Seriously? Had to go for Alison Limerick, purely for "Where Love Lives" - a classic house tune, plus Dead Or Alive as I used to see Pete Burns a lot in Liverpool and Mel & Kim as I spoke to one of them on the phone once (Mel) and I quite liked "Respectable" and "Showing Out".

Bananarama. I don't mind a few of their tunes meself as it 'appens ... Cruel Summer is superb. I went for Judas Priest, Jason Donovan (!!) and Roland Rat. Jason Donovan's "Too Many Broken Hearts", "Everyday" and "When You Come Back To Me" are guilty pleasure pop tunes - I knew they were junk in the 80s but couldn't help but like 'em solely as a guilty pleasure plus they did have a bit of guitar in them. I will probably be condemned in the TOTP thread for all eternity for fessing up this info. Roland's "Number 1 Rat Fan" is in my car ... utter nonsense but just about sums up SAW, plus his mate Errol The Hamster was the ONLY token Welsh on British kids telly regularly during the 80s (alongside Taff in Minder for grown ups). Such forethought for valleys minorities gets Roland my vote any day.

Bananarama were my first pick, Love In The First Degree was a gem of a pop single.
Mel & Kim got a mention as I thought they were two well fit girls, there is a theme developing here with my picks.
The Reynolds Girls - Yes I voted for them, crime against music maybe, but when you think about two girls writing to SAW for a laugh then ending up with a hit single I think that was a brilliant story and had a certain charm to it.
We could spend all day arguing about the merits of the SAW productions back in the day, but they did do some good songs over the years, posters of a certain vintage on this forum would have all danced to a SAW tune over the years.
I actually liked the below song back in the day...

I have voted for Debbie Harry, I don't see how you could not. Most of the other names make me feel a bit queasy but not Errol Brown and not Georgie Fame whose own period of success must have come long before the star making trio appeared on the scene.

Sir Kitty's classic ' I Just Don't Have the Heart to Tell You That You Look Like a Right Prat with Your Syrup Taped On'. Fair play he has got some big hair in this one. Newsflash: my mum bought the cassette single of this when it came out. I knew when Cliff succumbed to SAW's chart appeal then his career was pretty much reaching the bottom of the downhill he'd been on for a while. His dancing in that video is beyond dreadful isn't it? Dear oh lord, I've seen better at the Garndiffaith pensioners Christmas knees up while they're still on the second course of the meals on wheels delivery. This was Cliff's period of The GOOF (The Best of Me), The BAD (Saviour's Day) and The UGLY (Millennium Prayer). It's criminal really ... the three of them (SAW) must have been sitting there, laughing 'emselves stupid watching Cliff's geriatric hokey cokey impression and thinking "EARNER!" then raking it in thereafter. Criminal I tell you! The noticeable thing about SAW's music is that pretty every song starts with that dodgy signature electronic drum machine roll introduction giving it that instant "naff" factor. Thus when Roland Rat starts orf with his rat rapping it just seems to fit so perfectly. I never really noticed it before, but it's incredible how Roland Rat looks a bit like Prince Charles...

Even without his remarkable HRH-like features Roland Rat probably deserved more consideration than I gave him. He was an important artistic icon of the 1980s. But I am not going to change my vote.

I'm a big fan of Debbie Harry and like some of her solo stuff but her solo work was 2nd-rate compared to Blondie. My brother had the Roland Rat album.

What song did Kylie sing wearing those hot pants? That's the one for me! Spinning Around, is the song Ace, but not a SAW production I'm afraid, but lets just have another peek to make sure.

Errol Brown, Georgie Fame, Cliff Richard, Debbie Harry, Edwin Starr, Judas Priest, Laura Branigan, Malcolm McLaren. At some point in their careers, did they really enter the SAW fold... ? I didn't know this, nor which records they did under this synthetic regime. These artists all had their moments elsewhere, in generally long and distinguished careers. So I will leave them out of my choices. What I have done, is chosen artists who had standard SAW tracks that were actually not too bad. And this was quite difficult: Donna Summer - for 'This Time I know It's For Real' and 'I don't Wanna Get Hurt'. Kylie Minogue - for (in particular) 'Better The Devil You Know', 'Step Back In Time', 'What Do I have To Do', 'Shocked' and 'Give Me Just A Little More Time'. Lonnie Gordon - for 'Happenin' All Over Again'. Dead Or Alive, Bananarama and Alison Limerick came close to being included. I didn't realise until recently that Lonnie Gordon, whose record I loved at the time, had been a SAW artist. Apparently the song had been intended for Donna Summer but she turned it down for some reason. It was passed on to Lonnie, who wasn't actually signed to the PWL label.

Roland Rat - The Album is awesome, wish they would release it on CD, unlikely to happen now in the world of downloads sadly, still got the Summer Holiday single on 7"
