Utter disgust to some, pure enjoyment to others, but which do you like the most?

Marmite for me. Don't mind Bovril either but vegemite is horrible stuff. Got an unpleasant Smokey taste.

Can't beat a bovril drink if stuck out in the cold but on toast it's marmite over vegemite

Marmite for me all the way (toast/cheese on toast/spag bol/sheppard & cottage pie)... but I recently picked up a small Tesco's own brand Marmite after reading several reports when it looked like there were going to be shortages, that its similar to the real thing, but slightly milder... and cheaper too

All disgusting, although I do use marmite, or a gluten free alternative at least, in a receipe for veggie burgers I make.

Voted for Marmite love Beef Bovril too, especially on toast. Chicken Bovril is brown and a bit runny - it should never have been made. None of these are good for those prone to a bout of gout either.

Hate ALL in their raw state, wouldn't touch bovril as its a beef extract, but I ADORE twiglets which is baked in marmite. I also love marmite petit potatoes, (small parisienne balls roasted in marmite)

The trick with Marmite is to not spread it too thickly as it is powerful stuff. Boiled or coddled egg with Marmite soldiers is great as is a cheddar and Marmite sandwich (Red Leicester doesn't work)

I like them all but haven't had Bovril for years because I live with a pair of veggies and make do with Marmite.I get the supermarket own brand stuff and can't tell the difference.Like Zimo says,it's strong stuff, and I use a tiny amount on my toast.I can eke out a supposedly empty jar for weeks.
I used to argue with my old landlord whether more people use Bovril as a drink or a spread.I reckoned the latter.
Didn't know they still made chicken Bovril.Didn't mind it but it seemed overly salty.
I'm going to have to abstain on this one.

Tried Marmite (or was it Bovril - I dunno, time can play tricks on one's memory) years ago when I had a child's palate. Didn't care for it, it seemed weird and unfriendly, altogether too headstrong for it's own good. So I never bothered going back to it. Then in 1984 I tried none of the others...
I went for YUCK! but who knows I might really enjoy em now?

You never said that in the rules to this weeks suggestion.. I didn't realise I actually had to have experiences of stuff to vote on death matches... all my answers have been based on: Loudness = any music death match (except death matches feat. Status Quo) Colours = everything else (except death matches feat. Status Quo) Magic 8 Ball = Death Matches #14-#19. Didn't vote = every death match feat. Status Quo. You're kidding me, if I knew those were the rules I would never have been able to cast a vote on at least 94.6% of death matches. Next week can we have a death match on 'Cannibalism'? As I feel I really would be able to cast a valued opinion regarding this subject?? Much more valued than say 'Bovril Vs Marmite'. Thanks, and sorry again everyone for my lack of thought when posting unnecessarily irreverent comments on such topics.

I didn't even know Vegemite was sold over here. By 'over here' do you mean England ? minder.org is a global phenomenon. Don't forget that maninasuitcase. Lol

Lol I agree KarinB - international site this and 'over here' for some is 'over there' for the rest of us. Wales the exception, which is 'back in time' for pretty much everyone. Fortunately, I know mias is a very outward looking and accepting individual but down there in Cornwall it has been known that the Vegemite lorry often gives up when it hits fog near Bodmin Moor, thus supplies might be a little scarce down where he is. Either that or Rick Stein half inches it all to sell with his cod pieces in Padstow. As for whether he means 'England' KarinB ... eeek, no comment (as I place my Mebyon Kernow pamphlet that I've been using solely for research purposes discreetly back on the independent 'all friends here' shelf). As well as international we are also of course non-political (thank gawd). As it happens, I bought a jar of Marmite in Slovakia this afternoon, thus mainland European brethren can get involved in this death match too. Is Marmite available down under then KarinB?

Never tasted Marmite or vegemite. Screw the top off and the smell puts me off.
I used to spread bovril over toast. Don't think my pallet now would stand it. I kinda like peanut butter (smooth) very occasionally.

Cheers jno, knew you'd reply to a 'global phenomenon' of minder.org. All good fun There is an Aussie version of Marmite made by a local producer here and there is 'real' Marmite in the British food section of the supermarket here.

Vegemite is even available in Tesco in Belfast. I have often wondered whether I should desert the tried and trusted formula of Marmite and be adventurous with this antipodean alternative but always decide not to. I don't think it has always been available in the UK and is relatively new in Northern Ireland I am sure. The first time I ever heard of it was when 'Men at Work' referenced it in their song 'Down Under' many years ago. I don't know when it appeared on shelves here but I assume it is made by someone under licence rather than shipped in.

I don't know when it appeared on shelves here but I assume it is made by someone under licence rather than shipped in. No, it's a secret formula known only to the Great Koala Elders Of The Six Star Pattern, and it's actually shipped in by a highly trained team of intelligent kangaroos.

I'm inquisitive and bought some reduced from Asda some years back. I'd rather have own brand yeast extracts.
