Reduced Salt Marmite, out since May 2018 apparently, ... blue jar! Just tried some this morning and very little difference to be honest. I can't help but think though, that now this is out, we have a good boy Marmite and a bad boy Marmite! www.marmite.co.uk/products/marmite-reduced-salt-250g

Never thought I'd see the day, but I've just unticked Marmite and replaced it with Other... the other now being... Smoother taste to Marmite and a fraction of the cost... off to spread some on two slices of bloomer toast

I agree with Wynn Chester about the Tesco yeast extract. It has a very nice rich taste and is not too salty like Marmite (although I do like Marmite). I'll have to try the reduced salt Marmte.
I don't eat meat, so I liked Bovril when it was vegetarian for a bit in the mid 2000s before it was made with beef stock again. The Tesco yeast extract makes a good Bovril style drink - just put half a teaspoon in a cup of hot water.

Don't know if that's new from Tesco but Morrissons have been selling their own brand for years at a fraction of the cost of Marmite and I can't really tell the difference.

I keep a jar of marmite* in the cupboard as I occasionally get a yen to have it on my toast in the morning.
*Other yeast extracts are available, and in truth it's a supermarket own brand knock off.

Oh yes, British health food at its best, undoubtedly also appealing to our Cornish contingent.

Just voted. Love them all, but went for Chicken Bovril. Sorry if that offends, but I could polish off a jar of that in no time!

First choice is marmite but when the jar was empty I tried bovril in desperation and liked it just as much. And I have to admit I like both spread fairly thickly.

I am glad to see you getting involved in these important forum discussions northernlass! We clearly debate the more important issues of everyday life here in death match corner. I am a bit tight with my Marmite - I have found removal of the lid and microwaving on 750w for 10 seconds gets what's left in the jar runny enough to get out. No more than 10 seconds though.

Havent tried microwave idea when the jar is nearly empty. I have a long handled thin-ended spatula that reaches all the way into the hard to reach places and does a great job of getting every last morsel. Nothing left when I've finished with the jar.

Dearie me, and I tried so hard to choose the right worms. I wonder where your minds were.... no cancel that, maybe I don't want to know!
It's off topic but I feel there should have been a health warning on some threads. I've been bummbling around the board and mention of some of the old tv progs and the leading men have set my pulse racing and my heart a flutter. Damn you're raising memories!

Anyone tried Xtra Old Marmite?

Anyone tried Xtra Old Marmite? It’s just the stuff that the supermarket couldn’t sell before the best before date, which then got sent back to the marmite factory to be rejarred so I heard? Plus they made a spelling mistake in extra.

I am a huge fan of marmite and all its ‘impersonators’ too if I am honest. For me however there is only one and that is the original. I have only just discovered this thread which is very remiss of me. Prior to Christmas, my wife , knowing my love for all things marmite bought me a treat that she saw in Sainsbury’s. I wasn’t sure if I would like it but, having sampled it I love it and have added it to our shopping list subsequently when my stocks get low. Marmite Peanut Butter - delicious on toast, very addictive....
