Often referred to as one of the best bands of all time, who certainly influenced many others. However, what is their BEST UK single release? PICK TWO!Wrapping Paper (1966) I Feel Free (1966)
Strange Brew (1967) Spoonful Part 1 (1967) Sunshine of Your Love (1968) Anyone for Tennis (1968) White Room (1968) Crossroads (1969) Badge (1969) Lawdy Mama (1970)

Given I drink weird teas, it has to be 'Strange Brew'.

White Room and Strange Brew for me. Love that scene in Life On Mars in the first episode where they walk the recently arrested killer down the police station corridor accompanied by Clapton's guitar solo from White Room.

I voted for Badge and Sunshine of Your Love. Strange Brew was a close third. I think I need to listen to some Cream now!

I remember Level 42's Mark King had a cover of 'I Feel Free' on his 80s solo album 'Influences' which I haven't heard in 25 years. Great tunes most of these and I much prefer Clapton in this band to any other he's been in or his solo stuff. I opted for 'Strange Brew' and 'Badge'. I have played 'White Room' and 'Badge' live in bands in the past, the latter in the live music hub of the world: The Star Inn in St Day, Cornwall.

Cannot stand Clapton. Has the blood of others on his hands. It's personal.
Steals other men's wives as well.

In fairness it is hard to rate Clapton as a technical guitarist (shock horror) - he was essentially around at the right time but not in the same league as say Vai, Malmsteen, Paul Gilbert, Allan Holdsworth or Stevie Ray Vaughan. He is at best a very good blues guitarist, who has had a couple of hits in the 60s and 70s but for me is definitely on the overrated list in terms of players. Cream have some good tunes but after this its pretty much the same old for me.

If you are unsure about this, the best way to make comparisons is like comparing Barcelona FC (in their pomp) against Dagenham & Redbridge FC MASSIVE gulf.

I liked their Ibiza Anthems 2002 CD best... Why's that not on here??

Only kidding.... I actually like 'Tales of Great Ulysses'.... Why's that not on here?? It's a bit limited I know but I like that the best.
I have voted for White Room instead though.

At first I thought Who are they ? Then I played a few seconds of the vids and recognised three songs. I think my vote tied things up !

They had a great run of singles - surprisingly, none actually reached the top ten in the UK, though they were all top 40. 'Badge' just about edges ahead for me. Always makes me stop in my tracks when it comes on the radio (e.g. 6Music sometimes play it). It still sounds fresh.

Cream played a few reunion gigs at the Royal Albert Hall in 2005 and the rendition of White Room really is something special imo. For merely three musicians to make such a sound is quite an achievement.
Another point worthy of note is the quality of Ginger Bakers drumming. Many cover versions of this track are available to watch online and I haven't seen one yet where the drummer plays to an exact copy of the original, certain notes/beats of complicated runs are left out. I don't think they can do it! Baker was in his mid 60s in 2005 and the man doesn't even break into a sweat whilst playing, it just comes naturally to him.
As mias has previously posted though, cross him at your peril. In a documentary, 'The Fabulous Mr Baker', a journalist spent several months with Baker, collating information to tell his story. Toward the end of the work, Baker had a disagreement with his biographer and proceeded to hit him accross the face with his walking stick and break his nose!
The last i read, Baker has been diagnosed with quite serious heart problems which require surgical attention buthaving led the lifestyle he's lead, I don't think he's doing too bad at all.

Not a big Clapton fan but I like Cream, and his soundtrack to Edge of Darkness is pretty good.
