Stewpot was on 'Junior Choice' from 1968-1980 before Tony Looney got given the job. In 1980 he moved to Radio 2 and I remember on there as well.
A fine broadcaster.
RIP

I used to listen to one of his radio shows with my Dad. One of his jingles had some cockney scallywag saying "'ello darling, ha ha ha" - cue Carry On style laugh. Always used to like that one. RIP Ed.

I cannot place him at all, it was Stuart (Oooooh, I could crush a grape) Francis, who I remember from Crackerjack.
RIP to the man anyway.

I don't think Ed Stewart was too high profile in more recent times. But for those who had their childhood in the 70s he was one of the fixtures.
I didn't take to 'Crackerjack' but I liked him on 'Junior Choice' (Sat/Sun mornings, Radio 1&2).
He did have a show on Radio 2 on Sunday teatimes until about ten years ago (the time slot that Johnnie Walker has now). It was always worth a listen, some times dug out some forgotten 60s-70s records. He still appeared on Radio 2 at Christmas, and had done so this year.
ltd - the "ello darlin!" jingle clip. I remember it well - IIRC they tried to track down the boy who did it years later, but couldn't find him. I forget the details but I think Stewpot had visited a hospital or children's home in his early days on 'Junior Choice' around 1968. One of the children was put onto the mic and said the phrase, which became a trademark of the show.
RIP Ed Stewart.
