I watched a program where he was riding around his back garden in a tank. He was saying that he never got one for Christmas as a kid,so he bought himself a real one.It was a genuine WW2 Tiger. Priceless. There's some footage here. At the risk of outing myself as a pedantic tank spotter I should say that if it's the same occasion you mention the vehicle's actually a Hetzer tank destroyer. Genuine Tiger tanks in running order are extremely rare (Bovington tank museum has one) but Hetzers are more plentiful on account of comparatively large production numbers and the design being used by the Swiss army well into the post war period.

Had a feeling I might get pulled up on that.I thought after I posted that the tank he was driving was too small to be a Tiger. If memory serves, wasn't he also in full German uniform at the time?
The only other bit from the program I remember,if it was even the same one,is him in a record store buying a Beatles cd set and being insistent it had to be the original mono version.

I think it was yes. Because I saw that too.

I can agree with both of these statements. Motorhead emerged as part of the same indie musical ethos that spawned New Wave: I'm not sure there's any point labelling Motorhead's music as punk/metal/speed/thrash or whatever. Lemmy himself was firmly of the view they were a rock n roll band, and that any further labels were superfluous. I especially like ltd's assessment. Lemmy was a character, and Hawkwind and Motorhead had their great moments. Didn't realise until comparatively recently, when a TOTP clip emerged, that Lemmy had sang lead on 'Silver Machine'. RIP Lemmy. A character, no doubt, and not a cloned pop star by any means.

I've watched the first 50 or so minutes of this. Very poignant and they sum the man up very well. Lemmy was a proper rock star and a gent.
